Thumbs up Essential apps for a new Desire user?

Hi all,

Fantastic forum here,

Recently purchased a desire and rooted is and now using DGB.
I am new to smartphones and was wondering what apps you would consider essential?

Especially looking for anything security-wise too, is there a need for a pop-up/add blocker or any type of firewall on a android?

Only just found out about gmail contacts backup and sync which I think is a great feature

Many thanks,

Can you give us more detail as to what you want/need your cell to do. It would help us out to give specific apps in helping you.

Many thanks guys, will look at that list now.
In regards to what i am after, it is literally the most essential ones at the moment, things like add blocker or anything that will make internet a bit easier.

OP, I'm fairly sure you can google several good ad blockers, and even some ROMs include them. Titanium Backup is another "essential" app for root users, as well as something like SetCPU if you have any type of variable governor for your kernel.
