Default turn data/wifi off automatically when screen turns off

Hello folks

I'm looking for a small footprint app that automatically turns off wifi/data when the screen shuts off...especially if I have wifi turned on.

I've tried juice defender but it's a bulky app and I don;t use much of it's features since upgrading to gingerbread.

I've also tried Green Power which was much more like it but I found on my phone that when I turn the phone on I get heaps of lag for up to 10 seconds making answering calls a bit of a hassle

I have the " always on" data turned off so I think I'm OK when with that because it turns off data when in sleep mode

I'm not interested in a toggle/widget either... I have some nice toggles in my notifications bar but alas at night I often forget to turn wifi off.

any suggestions would be grateful...searching in the market for these common terms throws up 2000+ suggestions

Have you checked the wifi settings to see if they have a wifi sleep feature when the screen goes to sleep mode? If not, you might want to try "Timeriffic" witch you can set your wifi to turn on and off at certain days and times.

There is the built-in setting for wifi, you can set wifi always on or to turn off with screen. I can't remember the exact settings available. go to setting, networks, wifi networks, then press menu key then advanced.

I don't know if this setting will affect other data modes (3g or bluetooth).

I didn;t know about this setting...will give it a go.

I re-installed Greenpower just to make sure I was using it properly...

You might want to look into tasker. I haven't ever used it, but I hear that it's quite powerful, and I would only assume that it could do this. I've heard that with tasker you can set up locations as triggers for various events. Like turn on wifi when you arrive at your house.

Sounds really cool!

That's basically what JuiceDefender does. And free as well.
