Default ColorNote to PC, PC to ColorNote?

Hi!

It it possible to transfer the notes from ColorNote to the PC and regular textfiles from the PC to the ColorNote app on the phone?

I would greatly appreciate this kind of feature. Where does ColorNote store my notes anyway? Is it possible to read them from the PC without any converting?

If this is not possible, can you please tell me about a notepad app that supports this?

Thanks!

I don't know if ColorNote supports that. I use mainly Evernote and OneNote on my PC. Both sync wirelessly over the internet their notes to my phone. And any note I make on my phone is reflected on their respective desktop programs.

I had a similar question some time ago, looking for a note app that had a windows companion -- type on one end, have it appear on the other... nope.

I ended up making a text file in Dropbox and making shortcuts for it on both ends. Same result, but they don’t pop up as notes, you have to open them.

Hmmm... so there is really no decent note app that does this, not even today?

How does Evernote work? Is there a Windows and an Android version of this application? How does the sync between phone and PC work? You need to register for an account?

Is Evernote really free of charge?... I would expect this type of software to have a price tag, but I wouldn't mind paying a small price for this kind of solution.

If you run Microsoft Office on the PC and have Onenote there is a free Android Onenote app. You sync it via the Microsoftlive Skydrive. Works fine for me. There is a limit on the number of notes in the freebie - from the blurb on it ...

"**** With the free version of OneNote Mobile for Android you can access, create and edit up to 500 notes. Once you reach this limit you can still view, delete, and sync your notes. To continue taking and editing notes, you can upgrade OneNote Mobile for Android to unlimited use through an in-app purchase.****"

Evernote offers free service as long as you sync less than 60mb worth of data in a month. If you exceed that, it will stop syncing (it still works on the PC side), and you'd have to wait til next month for it to sync. A little bit problematic on the phone, since the free version of the app does not save offline copies of unsynced notes. You can pay for the Android app for offline note access, then you can pay for a monthly/yearly subscription fee to exceed the 60mb monthly data cap.

OneNote on the other hand is paid on the PC end, but free on the Android end as long as you have less than 500 notes. Once it hits that, the Android app becomes just a viewer for notes you make on your PC.

SpringPad is a completely free competitor of the above two, so is Catch Notes. But they're both web based facilities, so no offline work. And in my experience, they're a little bit slower and clunkier.

On both services, you need an account. OneNote works with a Hotmail account or Windows Live account. Evernote needs you to register. Basically log in on your Android app, and on the desktop app, and notes automatically sync.

You can send a note as an attachment. Or copy the note itself into email in Color Note

You click on the save icon (looks like an old "floppy" disc) in the top left corner -- duh. ColorNote is a fine app! Why would you call something "Total crap!!!!!!!!!" rather than just learning how to use it?

Another good app for notes that sync between a phone or multiple phones and the internet is Catch Notes.

Thanks for your advice Luke- Yes it does work! I just installed it to use with colornote. I did a half hour of searching this topic before I found your post here. excellent work around so app users don't have to wait on app developers to expand utility for PC's.

Cool Google Keep is out!

All the notes are synced automatically, and you can access using https://drive.google.com/keep . You have a Keep App for android as well.

I eventually dicovered that writing notes in the Tasks pane of PC Google Calendar syncs with a zilion droid apps for that purpose, like GoTasks. Does exactly what I was looking for, as long as I don’t write novels in the fields.

OMG it worked! After losing/or replacing a waterlogged phone twice, thereby losing my notes, I decided to research how to upload notes to my computer. A great big thanks to you Luke and to Phandroid! I signed up!

It didn't work for me. I installed Bluestacks but it wouldn't log in with my google account to sync the notes. I'd log in but then it would give me a screen asking me to confirm permissions for the app but the button to click to accept them and continue wasn't available so I wasn't able to sync the notes.

Angel Google Keep, now with reminders!

You can try Google Keep, which keeps the notes you create on your Google Drive, accessible from your computer as well as any internet connected device.

I find the location based reminders helpful for quick reminders to do something upon arrival to a location.

You already have some suggestions about other similar apps. However, I can tell you how to send a copy of your notes to your e-mail if you need to back them up for some reason. (I did this since I am looking at a possible factory reset for my phone, & didn't want to lose all my notes.) I don't know how the sync to FB works, & I could NOT get the notes to attach to email. However, I was able to send each note individually as a text to my email. Better than nothing! Hope this helps.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but I did not see this mentioned anywhere else. There *IS* a fairly easy way to view your ColorNote(s) on a PC that I found... Send it as an attachment.

I have not tested this method via email, but when used with Bluetooth file transfer, I get an ".html" file that retains what little formatting ColorNote allows (double returns to separate paragraphs, for instance). This file can be opened in MS Word, saved as a PDF, or just copy-paste the text from your browser into another program.

I have done this on a Galaxy Note 8.0 (Android 4.2.2) running ColorNote 3.9.51. At the moment I cannot recall if this is a feature exclusive to these Samsung tablets, so FYI. The benefit of this trick is it works entirely local with no internet access or cloud services.

Once you have paired your Android device to a Mac/Win system via Bluetooth and enabled file sharing permissions...

1. open the ColorNote item you want to push to your computer
2. tap the Menu button
3. tap SEND
4. select "Send as attachment"
5. select "Bluetooth"
6. select your PC from the device list

If you had your Bluetooth sharing set up correctly, the .html file should transfer to your designated save folder on the PC. Check it in your favorite browser. The auto-generated file names are ugly and non-descriptive, but easy to fix.

Unfortunately I don't have a trick for pushing text BACK into ColorNote from a PC. Would be nice if ColorNote allowed import from email or plain text.

Hopefully this brings some relief to a few others out there.

Default PC readable colornote sent from Samsung SII T989

Just sent single note for Galaxy S2 T989 as attachment via email. Shows Square brackets [] @ start each line, otherwise just plain simple text.

I also copy the backup files **.dat and **.idx to my Linux/ubuntu PC-OS for safekeeping.

Good thread.
