Hey guys I'm very happy to let all of you know that finally the best app for streaming shoutcast content is on the android market!
DroidLive is a player that lets you stream radio stations. It has a unique and different design that lets you search and organize stations in an easy and intuitive way. Be the first to experience this innovative player!
I actually downloaded the lite version last night as I can only see free apps and I really like it. It works very well over WiFi and is easy to use. I really wish I could buy the full version
With the paid version, can I add my own streams ? Like SomaFM or other streams not in shoutcast ?

The Android Syndrome: Great app, awful interface. It works but it also looks very, very amateurish for such great experience overall. Also, can you bundle it with a Shoutcast widget that shows the name of the song that is playing, its album art if such was found since streaming start, as well as the traffic and the total traffic downloaded this session/since using unless wiped in case using WiFi, 3G or Wifi and 3G (option defined). This would be very useful for people on limited 3G networks.
Hey Raynerape,
Android Syndrome? Awful interface? Very Amateurish? Well it sure is different than other apps, we decided to take the creative step and not use the standard plain graphics android provides...
I would be interesting to get an example from you of an application that you consider not amateurish and with a great interface... I want to see where you are coming from...
Sorry you didn't like it... About your ideas they are good and we have been working on a widget and other features...

I love it! Used DroidLive Lite for two days and had to spring for the paid version. I thought Nokia's Internet Radio app on my N95 was good, but DroidLive beats it hands-down. Personally I love the interface, and look forward to seeing how it develops.
I purchased the app tonight, and find the UI much easier to use than several
streaming apps I tested out this evening.
However when I select an item I have searched for, if the on screen
keyboard is up, the app crashes. If I remember to close the on screen
keyboard first, then select my search result the app will not crash.
I tried re-booting the device, but that did not help, and I have also noticed
that if I use the onscreen keyboard, then dismiss it, then select a search result,
sometimes the onscreen keyboard pops back up, then the app crashes as well.
There seems to be some issue with the onscreen keyboard though.
Hopefully this will be fixed in the upcoming release.
I'm not going to delete and refund, as I do like the app, but as with
all new software, it could use some tweaks. I wish when you are scrolling
through a list, the highlighted item was a completely different color, as
I cannot always tell which item I am scrolling over, old eyes I guess :-)
Currently in the market, I have given the app 3 stars, but I feel with
future releases I will be upgrading it to 5 stars.
Thanks
Chuck E.

Here is another issue I noticed while using the search in the app. If you search
with quotes around the text, the app will also crash.
What happened was I was searching for OTR, as I like Old Time Radio programs, and I was also getting results like GotRadio, as the letters OTR are together there, so I put quotes like this "OTR" and the app crashed every time. I also tried it with other text such as "BBC" and it also crashed.
I hope I'm not coming across as complaining here, I'm just trying to provide
some feedback where I see problems.
Thanks
Chuck E.

The additions to the UI work well both functionally and visually. The interface is very responsive. It's now very easy to overshoot when scrolling the list looking for a particular station - very fluid. I had a couple of disconnections while moving around at work (metal-framed warehouse, acts like a giant Faraday cage) but the player picked up again nicely when the signal improved. The error msgs are a nice touch too. Apart from that the stream played fine with no hiss or other artifacts. Thumbs up from me!

Have some of these enhancements been added to the lite version as well? I've downloaded the lite version recently, and I love the graphical UI, and the app seems to perform well. But given the lite version says v1.01 I'm wondering if this isn't the updated version. If not I'd like to see some screenshots etc. I'm very interested in the paid version, primarily for the favourite and tagging options... But I want to give things a thorough test first... i.e. running a station for a long time.
My only feedback (on the lite version) would be some method to see fuller information of each station in the search results. Many stations have long names/descriptions which are cut off as screen space runs out. A press and hold option to view full information would be awesome.
Secondly, only a personal preference but I find the way artist and track names scroll annoying. I'd rather it was a continuous loop rather than getting to the end and immediately resetting itself. I had an instance where both the artist and track name were just a letter or two too long... and seeing them both almost vibrate was a bit painful.
Kona, about the free version, I will be putting up an update this week I'm on the process of doing just that! Will have the new graphics but still limited features.... About the station name being long, if you have it highlighted it will scroll to show you extra info. In the player you might be right could be annoying, what you recommend?
*Let it scroll automatically few times and maybe use finger to scroll text too?
I like the idea of a long press on a radio for more information... I got to see how much info is available for each station to see if worth it?
Let me add we are going to add tutorial too for using this app since some things aren't too obvious for some people...
Thanks for the response Jona. I didn't figure out that the highlighted station scrolled. That is very useful now I know.
I'm not sure about the inplayer scrolling either. You're probably right that as it is now is the best option. It can be a unclear when all 3 fields need scrolling, but it really isn't a major issue.
About playing your own URLs... It's not the most obvious way but if you type the URL inside the search field you can than hit the search button and it will start streaming... As of now you can't give it a link to a playlist only a direct link to a station, I'm working on making this side of the app really easy, so stay put for next version
Soon we will have our webpage updated with more information! Like versioning logs and tutorials on how to use DroidLive...
I got a question for all of you:
*What features would you like to see on DroidLive?

- Custom URL for is the most important...
- Also, more station to search from... Here, Radio-Canada has a lot of good stuff and I can't find them in the search.
- Version in the "About" Window
- I won't use it but maybe some ppl would like a Widget
Thanks again for this great app.

I'd like the favorites list to to show what is currently playing like the search list does.
It would be nice if you could bring up the station's web page (If it has one) and
see their program listing or at-least be able to see what the next program will
be and when it starts. I listen to a lot of old time radio dramas and it would
be nice to know when the next one starts so I can access it from the beginning.

I would like the ability to add a tag or tags to songs that are bookmarked using the tagme function. This way I can remember why I liked a particular track. For example I might mark something with "chilled", or "groovy" etc. I could then use this information when I am adding these songs to playlists in say Spotify or Last.fm.
I upgraded to the paid version recently, and I'm intrigued to know what the 'auto' on the bitrate cap control does. I assume it caps the bitrates that are allowed to be played when not on a wi-fi connection. But I'd like to know what the parameters are exactly.
First, the higher the bitrate the better the radios quality will be, but also drawback is that it requires a faster internet connection.
The cap allows filtering radio stations results to the ones that will play without any problems. It can also help when your driving and can't be looking at the fine text for bitrate number.
As of now it does it simply by looking if your connected to a G network, EDGE, or 3G, and according to that I figure out what should be a good rated bitrate. It is definetly not the most accurate way of doing this but it is a roughf estimate. I didn't want to do the actual accurate way since it will waste users bandwidth and battery life...
I have to say I like this app and joined the fourm because of this
Will u add a pause funtion as there some long prerecorded radio streams I listen to so I pause them on my and would appreciate if this can be implemented on this app.

Sorry my head was somewhere else! No plans to support pausing at this moment. I would like to have this feature but I just don't have much time to work on it... I'm working hard on other features for DroidLive and once these are complete I'll try to get into the pause feature...
This morning I received and update for my droidlive, I typed in a url from a radio station in Miami, FL and when I went to play it tells me that is not supported. HELP!

I have a question. I've notice recently that in the taskmanager, I always see the following app running:
com.android.droidliveplayer:remote
If I force close the app, it reopens on its own, within a few moments, regardless if I'm using the app or not.
Just wondering the function of this, if its normal, and if its necesary or not?
Hi guys! sorry for not responding this thread for a long time now... Please join the fans site at DroidLive Fans. There you can post your questions under the discussion tab and I'll make sure I answer all your questions!
This link is directed toward a flash player... It's not a link to the actual stream... I'll check it out... maybe we will include the univision radio directory too
