Question Calendar Notification Ringtone

I can't find out how to change the ringtone in the Calendar. According to Google's website, once in the Calendar, click Menu->More Settings->Alerts & Notifications. However, the 'More Settings' options is not visible to me when i click menu in the Calendar. The options visivle are: agenda, day, week, month, new event, today, and manage. What's going on?

I have a Canadian Rogers HTC Dream phone. The firmware says 1.5.

So, when you've got your calendar up, you press the menu button, you should see a pop up that shows things like "Agenda", "Day", "Month" "New Event" "Today" and "More"

If you tap "more" that pop up slides down and and a new one pops up that has "My Calendar" and "Settings"

If that's not what happens, what DOES happen when you are in the calendar and press the "menu" button?

Most of those icons are there, except 'More' that is not there. Instead there is a 'Manage' button, which just lets me choose which google accounts to use. So the problem is, no 'More' button, so I dont know how to get to the notification setting for the Calendar.

Hmm, well you could try this. With your hardware keyboard open, go into the calendar app. Now press "menu" and "p" at the same time. This is the keyboard shortcut to get to settings. Hopefully it will work. That's odd that you're missing a key feature, I thought carriers weren't allowed to make that sort of alteration. Maybe you have a developer phone instead of a retail phone?

Menu+P doesn't seem to do anything. I tried every Menu+[key] combination too just to check, and nothing.

It's not a dev phone, I just bought it from Rogers yesterday, and it says 'Rogers' On the back.

Hi Jay,

I don't know if you're still watching this thread or if this is still a problem for you but I thought I'd post this just in case any other Roger's users ran into the same problem.

The clue I noticed just a few minutes ago was the little message telling me to use the trackball to select a calendar. From the Calendar press Menu then tap Manage. This is where the list of your calendars is displayed and where I saw the trackball message I mentioned above. So I used the trackball to highlight a calendar. I guess tapping would work too if you tapped twice, the first tap would toggle on/off the calender. Once the calendar is highlighted press Menu again and you'll get the Settings option. Tap settings and from here you can select a different ringtone for the selected calendar.

It works, Thank You!! I was still watching and hadn't found a solution yet, so you were a huge help. Thanks! I feel kinda dumb for not figuring it out, but I still think unchecking something shouldnt be selecting it as well. They should have used a different style of control. Oh well, I know now!

It must be something Rogers was able to remove because I have the same issue with my Rogers HTC Dream. It's annoying because I can't set a default calendar view and it always opens as "daily" which is not that helpful for me. Any workarounds out there?

What to do now, my device does not have neither HW keyboard nor the trackball, so I cannot mark the calendar... Any ideas?

Default Calendar Notification Ringtone

@JayB, I have the same problem.

I just upgraded from a G1 to a Samsung Vibrant, and can no longer find any way to change the calendar notification ringtone. I wonder if it's an oversight within the app, since I have no trackball or keyboard to allow me to select any of the calender entries on the screen mentioned in this thread. If I click on one of the listed calendars, it simply unchecks it or checks it, but does not remain selected. Thus, there are no additional menu options when I click the menu button.

Worse yet, the calendar doesn't even use the default ringtone that you can select within the global settings. Instead, it's using the one listed as "On Time" in the global settings -- I know this just by the sound, I can't actually see where it's set for the calendar.

This is a problem for me since the default is too subtle and easy to miss in a somewhat noisy environment. I hope this oversight is addressed soon.

I have the same problem as @tonyguinta. Why is the calendar for the Vibrant so much different then other "Android" calendars? Does anyone know of a calendar app that works well?
  • The default notification is a short soft bubbly noise which is impossible to hear from my pocket and cannot be changed! I can't remember the last time I had a phone that didn't allow me to change a notification tone.
  • No option to have the phone vibrate upon calendar notification.
  • The default calendar doesn't sync with gmail so I have to change the calendar to my gmail calendar every time I add a new event.
  • The default setting is "no reminder" and it cannot be changed so I have to add a reminder every time I add a new event.
This phone has a great screen but the calendar functionality is extremely annoying.

PS - The Vibrant also doesn't sync my google contact groups...including the "My Contacts" group...this means that I can either sync everyone who ever sent me an email, or nobody!
