Default App to Compose SMS Message on PC and send through HTC Desire

Just was wondering if there was anything like this for the Android so i could compose SMS using a full PC keyboard (I sometimes write War And Piece) and then send it to my Desire to send out. I used to be able to do this with my SE PC suite?

Default pc suite or ovi suite sms functionality

+1

anyone who gets used to sending smses from nokia's pc or ovi suite will forever find even the best phones keyboard a royal pain. I'm more than happy to pay for a product that integrates with Outlook's contacts on the PC to send messages through the Desire. Developers?

Search, search and search again. There are multiple apps for doing this. I posted a list of them here in the forum.

You could write your message in a PC email program and send it to your phone as an sms. If you're on the Verizon network your email address is your full 10 digit phone number @vtext.com, TMobil is phone number @tmomail.com, ATT is phone number @txt.att.net. I'm sure all carriers have similar setups, those are just the ones I happen to know.
Once you get the sms on your phone you could forward it on.
Alternately you could send the 'email' directly to your friends phone as an SMS. Just keep in mind when you do that if they 'reply' to your sms it will come back to your PC as an email.

I just discovered MyPhoneExplorer and it seems like a fantastic piece of software - just what I've been looking for. I've only been playing with it for a few minutes but it does exactly what I was looking for - preparing text messages on the PC and sending them through my HTC Desire, like Nokia's Ovi Suite - but it also has a huge amount of other functionality. Well worth the money (it's free)!

I still need to figure out if I trust it to also sync my Outlook contacts and calendar in place of HTC Sync.

I just discovered that you can see the amount of phone memory used by apps (132.8MB out of an available 147.63MB on my device, apparently). You can also install, delete and start individual applications from an application list.

And the UI for the messaging part of the PC app is great (conversation view by contact or regular InBox, Drafts, Sent Items, etc.).

I also use MPE and can recommend it. Specifically for syncing Outlook contacts and calendar! I don't use it for texts as I never send any ....

As for just using the PC as a typing station I use an app to share my PC's keyboard via wifi ... ShareKeyboard free - Android ... seems to work OK so far.

I also use MyPhoneExplorer and it's working quite well so far...sending sms messages from it is really easy.
As for outlook integration - it works quite well; i've had 2 major issues with calendar syncing
1) All Day events sometimes post one day (say I have an all day event on 14th December, it posts to my phone as 13th December). The developer is looking into it for me.
2) No support for multiple categories in calendar/contacts. , so i can only sync to one central outlook calendar.

Default MPE 160 characters

Thanks for the pointer to this similar to Nokia suite...

One thing I have noticed is that I do tend to send long texts and N PC suite will allow it through as maybe 2 messages / 3 messages sometimes even 4/5 messages..which will show at the top as I am typing..

MyPhoneExplorer will no stop you from forming a text of over 160 characters but when you commit to send It will time out,I found this happened by chance and then just halved the message to 2 texts manually..

Thats my only neg so far the rest is a great program..Option to donate? why not

I think that smslemon.com can help you. Certainly you will be able to send, receive and search own SMS using smslemon.com. In abbreviation you can compose, send, receive own SMS through the website. All your messages are sent from your phone.

To add to this - MyPhoneExplorer now has a 'share keyboard' option so the other app has been deleted .....

Kies Air for Samsung, then there's Remote Web Desktop.

Nothing still beats Ovi Suite in the send SMS via PC on the Android side though.

AirDroid does this (and lots more) really glad I found it:

Just downloaded AirDroid. There's one feature that doesn't work correctly for me. I can't use it while tethering using my phone's mobile hotspot. Remote Web Desktop does that so I'm good for now, despite AirDroid looking a better app. I emailed the developer though. If he adds that, I'm going for it.
