I've been trying to do this for some time yet, I think the guides I've been following are for non-rooted N7's. I'm running Cyanogenmod 10. I've tried creating an "eBook" folder manually and putting all my books in there, nothing. I have 4 different apps I've been trying with, the built-in reader, Kindle app, B&N Nook, and Calibre, none of them can see the files, they're all EPUB and PDFs. I've tried placing them directly into Kindle directory, can't see them.
What directory do I put them under, or can I upload them via drive or drop box so they can be found?
I use aldiko reader, you can use the files section to locate your books, mine are just in a folder called books. Don't think the kindle app can read local files.
Device(s): Evo4G LTE(Me),
Epic4GTouch (Wife),
Nexus 7, Nook Tablet
All rooted? Of course!!

I use Aldiko along with Aldiko sync to keep books synced between phone and tablet. You could also check out FBreader, cool, moon+ and I'm sure there are several more. The Kindle and B&N apps are meant for reading books obtained through their respected ecosystems. You can import epub into both (Kindle requires conversion) but they don't make it convenient... On purpose.

Don't you have a file explorer of some kind? If it can see the books, find the path that the file explorer is using and point your reader in the same direction.
