Default Android Market has more apps than Palm App catalog

I do believe the Android Market has more apps than Palm App catalog (30 apps only) I am so baffled by this engadget report that with only 30 apps in the Palm apps catalog, they had 1 million downloads in a little over 3 weeks since launch of the pre.

How is it that Android market never get any sort of measurement as to how much download was done and the number of apps in Android market far exceeds the palm app catalog. Also the media covered so much on the release of the pre but almost nil cover on the magic/my touch, probably not as such a huge hype as the pre launch.

Because Palm is trying to push how awesome the Pre is with the relatively small numbers they are quoting. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple gets more than a million downloads a day.

But yeah, Google should release some stats on the Android Market. I think that Android is going to see an explosion of awesome apps, as the Galaxy and Hero are released. The first two phones with real mass market appeal (imo).

So far the numbers they release are only the "ratings per app" and download range per app.

The most popular App in the Market is:
The Weather Channel
More than 250K downloads and 31,062 ratings
Came out early in the Market

The second app is a bit of surprise:
T-Mobile My Account
More than 250K downloads but only 9,427 ratings
Surprising because it is for just one carrier, and it is number 2 (at least in the US Market.)

The third app is:
MySpace Mobile
250K+ with 35,227 ratings (more than TWC app)

The most popular Game in the Market is:
Pac-Man by Namco
250K+ with 25,199 ratings

Second:
Solitaire
250K+ with 9,701 ratings

Third:
Sudoku (Full Version)
50K - 250K downloads with 1823 ratings

Interesting numbers to say the least.

One caveat - we don't know for sure that popular tab in the Market is "most popular of all time" or "most popular in a shorter time period."
