according to the other part of the thread (or the newest part I guess), SK doesn't do flow in areas where predictions are disabled in even regular SK via API in the app (usually because the app wants to provide it's own predictions, like in google search bars or whatnot. It's annoying, but it makes sense.

When I can remember to use it i really like how well it works. The best part is even when I forget to use it is still swiftkey.

Anyone taken part in SwiftKey betas before? How frequently do they update the beta version? We going to see a build a week or could it be a month before the next build?

IMO, it doesn't make sense. I use Swype all the time in places that provide their own prediction.

yes, but it works in the Swype app. It doesn't always get the word right, but the feature is enabled, and I'd prefer to have the option of swiping if needed and typing if it's not doing what I need it to. This is a major part of why I switched from iPhone to android - I wanted more control.

Then Swifykey might not be for you. The devs have seemed very unwilling to change this and much more willing to follow the apks on what they ask keyboards to do, which I am okay with. but to each their own! That's why we have options

I think you may be right. I'll keep it for now, to see if it's something I can get used to, but I'll probably switch back to Swype before too long. I'll miss the neon blue color though if I do that

That's actually the thing that's kept me away from swype all this time, maybe even more than just not liking tap typing on the swype keyboard is I can't stand the color scheme they use, and I didn't think it was possible to change it. Is it possible?

Yes, the latest version of Swype has several themes. I wish they would go away from themes though and allow the user to independently choose button style, button color, text color, and trace color.

The themes would be much better if they also changed the trace color. I'm not particularly fond of orange.

They do. I'm using the red theme and it has a red trace.

well, that's true. Some of them are red, but I like the dark keyboards, and they all have an orange trace color.

I tried the Pumpkin color, and then the neon, but went back to the standard color as my favorite!

Funny story, true story - I installed SwiftKey Flow yesterday and it absolutely rocked! Today I had to do a factory reset because of an update to Jelly Bean from ICS which caused some quirks. This is not an uncommon occurrence but in doing so I also deleted ALL of several hundred text messages along with my copy of SwiftKey Flow beta. Once I got back up and running again I re-installed SwiftKey Flow beta but could not re-install the several hundred text messages. Without those to 'key in' on my style of writing, SwiftKey Flow is not nowhere nearly as awesome as it was! This should not be a surprise but still took me a few minutes to figure out what was going on. But since I text a lot (for a 50 year old guy) I'll get back there soon.

Good tip! I had forgotten it was a stand alone app, and just went and synced my FB and GM and Text messages. I am anxious to see if this improves the word predictions.

I now use GoSMS pro for texting, and have it set to back up my text messages every morning to my SD card. You might want to consider this?

Good tip from you as well! I've looked at a couple of the aftermarket texting apps (GoSMS and Hancent) but didn't like the look much of either, at least as shown in the little screen captures in the app store.

I like the look of the stock program so I guess if I could re-create that with one of them then it would be worth it just to be able to keep the text messages if only for the 'training' of SwiftKey Flow. I did allow it to access my FB content but apparently that is not nearly as good as the text messages. I'm struggling right now with SKF as it's not nearly as good as it was before the wipe.

Let me know if you see an improvement with yours after adding your text messages.

One of the things I'm finding annoying is the "next word prediction". I would much prefer that instead of offering predictions for the next word, it would offer possible corrections to the word I just "flowed". I've tried changing several options and none seem to give me what I'm looking for.

Is there any way to make SwiftKey Flow work this way?

no, but i've found that if you hit the backspace key so that it goes back to thinking about the word you just typed, it will give you possible corrections. I know it's not ideal, but it works, and maybe they'll think of something better by the time it leaves beta.

Unfortunately, I've decided not having the ability to swipe in all apps/fields is just not something I can live with, so I'm going back to Swype. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

yeah, if it were just a few times for me, I'd be okay with it. but it seemed like every other thing I tried to do, it made me type manually, and that really makes the "flow" part of the app..well, not so "flowy"

I'm waffling between swype and swiftkey flow still. Yes, there are lots of times when you can't flow using swiftkey. On the other hand, in forum boxes like this, swype doesn't auto-space, and that's really annoying too.

Both still have some major issues.

Back to swype for me at the moment.

And of course the first thing you try is to "flow" your entry...which does nothing. Then you try again and get nothing again. Then you realize that this is one of those random places where you have to type it. Very annoying.

Agreed. That's really the most annoying part, is I don't know if I can slide till it either does or doesn't work.

We should start a list of the programs that Flow does not 'flow' on. For me it's really all about texting, facebook, and Tapatalk. Those are the programs where I'm writing a lot and therefore need the speed of Flow or Swype. And all of those programs Flow works just fine.

Most of the places I've encountered the manual entry is like entering single words in search bars like with the App Store where I really don't even need to write all that much stuff. Also, often times it is even better or required to manually type in because the words are sometimes not real words and actually need to be typed in manually anyway.

So what other programs are you guys talking about? Listing them would be helpful to both users (to decide if Flow is for them) and to the makers of SwiftKey (to help them make fixes). This is a beta program, after all, and that's what this is all about!

The "all browsers" is the one that bothers me most. Can't use it in any forums I've tried writing posts... I'm using stock android (4.2) which would be perfect if they added numbers to the main keyboard.

I have it on my tablet, and I use email and browsing a lot on it. It does not work in the To: field, or in any browser that I use (firefox/Chrome)

it also does not work in the Google Play store, or the Epicurious recipe app, or the google calendar app (to add events)

It may work in many more, but these are the ones i use most often, so the fact that it doesn't work on them is really annoying/frustrating and kind of a deal breaker. I'll keep it installed and check back periodically to see if this is something that gets fixed.

I hadn't thought about browsers and tablets. I only us on my phone and I almost never use a browser for anything on the phone so it's not as bad for me. Makes you wonder if they deliberately left it out of the beta but will fix it in the paid version to make sure people actually buy it and not just keep and use the beta!!!

Actually, it's pretty simple. Any time you can't see the prediction bar, you can't slide.

Nah, the beta dies in January and you won't be able to use it then.

Do they support multi-touch swyping like keymonk keyboard?
