Change background color for email?

Is there a way to switch the color of the gmail or stock email app on a Samsung Galaxy S3? I have searched all over the web and looked through every setting for a way. The only way that I have found is to use the "negative color" setting to invert the whole device. However, I just want the email to have a black background and white text.

Please help!

PS: My phone is rooted, but running the stock firmware. I haven't got around to getting a rom.
