Default Android is freezing up..

Okay! So here's the deal friends. I don't have an Android phone.

But I have looked at about 1,354,024,983 reviews on phones with Android, primarily with Verizon. They look awesome - I've tested em out in person and they are my type.

The two biggest comments are freezing and poor battery life.

The poor battery life doesn't surprise me - it's a smart phone and the battery industry simply isn't up to par with technology. What a joke!! Or an oxy-moron? Maybe we need more scientists but cmon whats the point of a smart phone if its DEAD!

To the point.

Is this a common problem and a reason to avoid purchasing an Android phone? I realize Android is relatively new - but I don't want a phone that I have to constantly reboot. My PC firefox freezes every once in a while but I dont have to restart my PC to fix it - just firefox (unlike the entire phone).

Is this common with all smart phones?? Why is this so common in reviews yet unfixable by android??

Thanks for listening. I'm waiting for the Incredible btw but am debating whether I've overhyped the device.

I've owned my Moto Droid since December and it's only frozen once. I'm not rooted ("jailbroken" as the iPhoneys call it), and I don't play games regularly. I make good use of the phone, using internet, texting, calendar, contacts, GPS apps, etc., but I'm not an extreme user as many on this forum are, who load and unload a program a minute.

Android is a very open platform, and that attracts a lot of users who like to push the envelope. I think those are the reviews of "freezing" you're reading.

That's my take on it, anyway. My wife has had a Droid Eris for 3 months and she's never ever had to reboot hers. But I'd call her a light user (internet, contacts, solitaire, and a few other apps).
If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

I have rooted my Sprint Hero. Programs have "force-closed" but I don't remember the phone freezing. The battery has lasted as little as 4 hours and as great as 36 hours. My current setup allows the battery to last for about 18 hours with moderate use. Android 2.1 is a very stable system so I am extremely happy that I chose to buy an Android phone.
