Default GPS tracker to notify entry or exit of area

Hi

Samsung Galaxy S3

I am looking for an app, free or paid, which will allow me to draw an area on a map. I wish to create alerts based on if my phone enters and or leaves the area. I would like the alert to be email, sms or a custom in-application service alert; with the alert to be sent to another phone with a message, preferably custom.

Some use cases are when I leave a buddies house to auto-notify the wife. Or know the wife is returning from work to open the garage.

I have tried a number of apps that claim to do the above without success.
One that comes close is this one. However, with a large area drawn of some 100meters/feet around my house. It reports I have left that area! (false alerts). (I have checked my GPS location and it seems accurate.)

"GPS Tracking"

Some search terms i used in google play were:
Location Alert / Notify / Alarm
GPS Alert / Notify / Alarm

Since I had some many failures trialling apps. I am hoping someone has first hand experience with something that works.
Thank you

Permanently GPS tracking uses a lot of battery. So the tracking apps which you tried, might have some battery saving strategies ... and therefore use vague coordinates (like the phone's cam is starting GPS for a picture's coordinates but uses the coordnates before enough satellites available).

So you might let permanently run a GPS app in background, additionally with your GPS tracking app.
For such GPS background jobs I use GPSTest by Mike Lockwood

Makes sense. Thank you for that suggestion. I have installed the app and will trial similar apps.
