your apps are not stored as apk files when installed.

you can export installed free (non paid) apps to apk files using backup methods like Astro File Manager though.

When you view your phone via the pc, search for .apk and you should see the backed up files. In Astro's case, they will be in /sdcard/Backups/Apps.

If you back up your apps to your physical SD card with "My Backup" copies of the .apk's for all downloaded apps including paid apps are in
sdcard-ext/rerware/MyBackup/AllAppsBackups/(name of the backup)

Copies of apps that you have written, created with Tasker App Factory, etc. are also there.

The names of the .apk's may be difficult to find and recognize in the list. For instance, the apk for Astro is named
com.metago.astro.apk
It is often easier to find the .apk for an app by looking for the app icon in the list than by looking for the name of the app.

Greetings scorpi10,

Be aware that when you connect your phone to your pc, you usually only have access to the SDcard portion. The OS partition does not normally show up on the PC.

As stated above, you can backup apps to the SDcard, and access them on the computer. Like Dieben said, backed up apps may not be displayed in a easily recognized format.
