Default Google Drive App Keeps Getting Bigger

I am getting the "Low on space" warning on my HTC Inspire and when I remove some apps, the space keeps getting reclaimed. The culprit is the Google Drive app. I recently purchased 100 GB of space on Google Drive and have moved about 30 GB of files over so far. I presume that the Google Drive App for Android is getting bigger because of it's index file(s) increasing due to my increased storage.

Is it just going to continue to fill up no matter how much space I free up on my phone storage? This makes no sense. Does that mean that people who use Google Drive to store lots of data can't use it on their phones without filling up all of their phone storage?

Is there anything I'm missing in the Google Drive setup? Any ideas on how to get around this?

If you don't specify to make the files in Google Drive available offline on your device, then it should never take up more space than the app itself, which is small. Make sure you don't have all these files made available for offline use.

I don't have any offline files. I saw a post somewhere else where someone was talking about size being taken up by the index file(s) that Drive uses. The Play Store shows that Google Drive is just over 6 MB, but on my phone it shows up as 334 MB. As I said, I have no offline files and this only started happening when I started moving 30 GB of data over to Google Drive. Dropbox and the other cloud storage solutions keep an index of files so it would make sense that Drive for Android is doing the same thing. I just don't know if there's any way around this. Seems a little ridiculous to me.

Not that it will help with your situation, but I’ve had the same dilemma, Google apps hogging memory and unmovable to SD. So I uninstall updates to stock apps like Maps, You Tube and Voice Search. I don’t have gDrive installed, but perhaps, if it works acceptably that way, you can do that too.

Its probably the cache space. I was once incredulous that Dropbox grew to over 200mb, only to realize it had been making a cache of everything I every opened. I just deleted the cache. Same should work for Drive.

My cache is set to only be 25 MB. I uninstalled and reinstalled Drive on my phone and it seems to be sitting pretty at just over 13 MB. But, I'll see what happens once I actually start using files from my phone.
