Question Battery stat apps other than better battery stats (maybe one for dummies)

I have this app and it's confusing-I can't figure out how to read it. Plus, about half the time I get a popup that says that feature requires root but sometimes the same feature does seem to work (my phone is not rooted). I have the latest version of jelly bean. Is there a simpler app like that? I don't mind paying. I don't want something to necessarily save battery (btdt with juice defender and gave up on it)-I just want to see what is using my battery up so that I can take steps myself to reduce it. I installed an app last night with my battery at above 50% and this morning, my phone was dead even though it was in airplane mode most of that time. So I'm not sure what this new app is doing that killed it that quickly, but the stock battery stats thing shows this app plus maps and maps usually isn't even on my stats.

If I have to I can uninstall the app but I'd like to try to adjust it so it's not killing my battery first.

battery doctor you might like better.

To get more life outta your battery turn screen bightness down when not in use and turn data off and gps and wifi.

Turn off auto update on apps.

OR! Buy and extended battery pack for your phone. Really cheap option and you'll get double life on battery.

Thanks. I do all that but sometimes after I install a new app I have trouble with the battery dying faster and want to try to fix it so that doesn't happen rather than uninstalling it.

If I get an extended battery I'll have to find a new clear case to fit my phone with it in.
