Question Safe apps vs. Unsafe apps

Hi All,

I heard that within the open source structure of Android that apps are not scrutinized for safe secure use like Apple's apps are. Is this true? Almost every app I use within Android I used at Apple but there are a few that are Android only that I'm unsure of.

Here are the apps I've downloaded at Google Play, what is your opinion? Safe or delete immediately?

Adobe flash player 11
SoundHound pro
Chrome
Disable Increasing Ring
exDialer
QuickPic
RCP Ringtones Complete
Amazon Mobile
Fresh Leaves
Foodspotting
Movies by Flixster
Nova Prime
Percent Calculator
Pulse News
Hotel Tonight
iMargin Calculator
Relax Melodies
Gas Buddy
AT&T Visual Voicemail
Zedge Ringtones
Google Gesture Search
Pandora One
Kayak
Around Me
RedLaser
LinkedIn
WebMD
You Tube
CNN
USA Today
The Weather Channel

Moved to Android Applications section. Don't know about some of these apps, but I do know some of them and know they're safe. The apps I know are safe are Adobe flash player, Chrome, Amazon Mobile, Movies by Flixter, AT&T Visual Voicemail, YouTube, CNN, USA Today, Pandora One. Really most of the apps are safe it's just the permissions you have to look out for to really determine that or not. Reading the comments is really handy also and you can always ask about apps here if you're unsure.

No problem. Here's a link to a thread with very helpful info about apps and explains the permissions.

Regarding the "permissions" in said app, is there a keyword in permissions that would red flag an app and send me running?

A good example would be permissions an app doesn't need. For example, a simple theme or wallpaper doesn't need access to your contacts or network access. That example should raise an eyebrow. It's good to know what permissions apps need before downloading.
No problem I am always happy to help.
