I have an Asus Transformer that I want to wipe/reformat/reset to start over from scratch.

I see the option under Settings where I can do the Factory Data Reset.
I also know I can do the VOl-DOwn + Power and do the Wipe Data from the boot menu.

Can someone help me understand what the difference is between those two options and what they each do?

I want to reset this thing back to how it was when I took it out of the box. No apps, No data, No anything other than what it came with.

Factory data reset from settings will allow you option to get rid of everything.

A recovery type wipe probably will not. On my device (Infuse), a CWM Data Wipe removes data associated with programs, but leaves user data intact.
