Default Why does Play Store want to update my Amazon app?

I bought the ad-free version of Angry Birds - Rio a while back from Amazon (v. 1.4), since Play Store didn't offer it. The Store said an update to v. 1.5 was available, so I installed it since Amazon shows no similar update.

None of my progression was wiped, but I didn't see the extra level it promised so I reinstalled the Amazon version. I'm just wondering, since when I installed the Store's v.1.5 Amazon recognized it wasn't theirs, why Play Store didn't do likewise when Amazon's v.1.4 was installed.

Curious too. I've seen that happen on some Amazon apps, but usually they won't install over the Amazon one. 75% of my free Amazom apps have higher versions at the Playstore. Seems Amazon gives you the free app, but developers then don't update the Amazon version, so you have to go buy the upgrade version at Google. Quite an Amazon scam.... but doesn't bother me much since usually the app doesn't change much.

One that's really squirrely is "Sketchbook Mobile". Seems the Play store updated the Amazon app I have with that name with "Sketchbook Pro for Tablets", and there are 4 versions at the Playstore:

"Sketchbook Pro for Tablets" << this one has the Amazon icon and is one that it updated to.
"Sketchbook Mobile Express"
"Sketchbook Mobile"
"Sketchbook Express for Tablets"

They all seem to do about the same thing...

I don't have a solution for you, but I too have some amazon apps that periodically the Play Store wants to upgrade for me. The first time that I did it, it screwed up the installed app. So now I'm very careful with updates. The update usually show up in the Amazon Market in a week(ish.)

It just makes me wonder if the previous free version of AB - Rio at the Store is really the same as the paid version at Amazon. The only reason I bought it at Amazon is because it wasn't available for sale at the Store.

OP, I'd wager that it's because the same .apk file has been submitted to both stores, so when the dev pushes an update out to the version hosted on Google Play, it'll show up as an update, despite the fact that you have no recorded purchase with them, which then prohibits the update to the app you were alerted about to begin with.

Ryan: except the "update" from Store *did* install over the one I had installed from Amazon. The only things different that I could ascertain were a different theme song and advertising links.

A similar thing happened with Beautiful Widgets which I had purchased elsewhere. The Store showed an update, but that time it refused to install.

I'm surprised that it did so. Frankly, most of the complaints I've heard previously were just that they were notified, but couldn't update

Prior to rooting my kindle I had the 1mobile market place app installed, and that would constantly want to update apps I had gotten from Amazon that had then not seen any updates in forever.

I always let it get on with it, worked in my favor
