Trouble: Sony Media Remote and GS3

I have a Sony BDP-S390 and a Samsung GS3 running Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.1).

I installed Sony Media Remote for Android from Google Play and successfully registered the app with the Blu-ray player. The app works great EXCEPT that it won't let me use the QWERTY keyboard anywhere. Whenever I touch the keyboard icon it loads the keyboard and then displays the error message "Cannot receive text at this time." This happens on Netflix, the internet, anywhere I would need the keyboard.

It's the only reason I installed the app and it's the one feature that isn't working. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

I emailed Sony Blu-ray Player Support (couldn't find app support) and received a reply within 6 hours. Sony Support said that Media Remote won't work on devices running an Android version above 4.1. My GS3 is on 4.1.1. The Support Tech said they're developing an update which will work on Android 4.1 and above.
