Default looking for some help on bluetooth keyboard

I have an LG Optimus V phone.
Running Android 2.3.7

Never used bluetooth before.

I have a bluetooth mini keyboard I'd love to be able to use.

I went into settings and turned on bluetooth.

Turned on the keyboard, and pressed the button that makes a blue light flash.

Went back to the phone, had it "scan for bluetooth devices."

it finds the keyboard. says it is Bluetooth 3.0 mini keyboard.

I see a button that says "pair with this device."

I hit the button, it asks me for my PIN code for the keyboard. it says "try 0000 or 1234" I try 0000.... it says "pairing" for about 30 seconds. then it goes back to "pair with this device" like it wasn't able to pair.

tried the same thing with 1234. same results. doesn't seem to pair with the keyboard.

any ideas?

Well the keyboard manual will tell you what pin code you need to use. The phone suggests the two that are most common but then my headset and car stereo are both 1111 ... The other thing is that your phone must have support for a keyboard, it must enable the BT HID profile. Can't tell you that, you'll have to read your manual and online docs to figure that out as I've never found a way to determine which BT profiles a phone supports. Also, did Android of that vintage support BT keyboards? Not sure.
