Default Other free map apps? Or cheap?

No matter what "keep your screen on app" I am to try, Google maps dims within a minute or so. Which doesn't help when it inconsistently tells you about the upcoming turns.

Is there another navigation app that does not dim the screen? But will still not get me lost? I'm directionally challenged! LOL
Oh bonus points if it will talk to me in a sexy male Australian accent! Prefer free but would pay off the app really really rocks. I use the navigation at least 4 times a week so it's worth it.

Thanks for any suggestions :-)

Interesting, not certain, I don't think my screen dims when using Google (Maps) Navigation.

I am currently "test driving" Scout. I noticed that it did dim the screen (not always) after a while, but lights it back up when a turn is coming up.

If you're driving around and have your charger plugged in, there is an option in your phone's settings which keeps the screen on as long as the phone is charging. You can reach it by going into your phone settings and choosing Developer Options.

Try Waze. Best navigation app I've used.

Thanks Everyone! I'm going to quietly pretend that I didn't find an option a few minutes ago inside Google maps that's turns off the auto dim... LOL. That would have been useful during the 3.5 hour trip home yesterday. Someday I will learn to hit that menu button. It's a cute little soft key. Should get more attention.

But I'm going to try Waze anyway. ;-)

I just used Waze for the first time and in in love! It's really easy and such am improvement over the Google maps. It took me a completely different back road easy that shaved about 15 minutes off my trip :-) and I got bonus candy then reported a cop sitting there. I feel accomplished and is only 9am on a Monday. LOL

You can download text to speech TTS apps to change the voice, accent your phone uses btw. Cant remember the name of the app but i used to have a cute female Welsh voice and im pretty sure it was free

I forgot to mention that you can download different voices for Waze. I'm using a female brit lol. They don't have weird voices like Nokia Maps' surfer dude voice, but they have a useable selection.

Is there a way to quickly turn the sound navigation part off in Waze? Takes a bit to go into settings each time.
