Maybe I'll give this a try later. I'm currently using Weather Eye. I like having hourly forecasts. The radar images are good and it animates it to show you where the rain is going as well.

I downloaded an app. from a local weather station. does what you wanted, animated maps, widget, can choose hourly or daily. select update frequency. Free, so you can try it first.

You can do this now. I use Weatherbug Elite and have it to update every 4 hrs. I use the stock Task Manager to kill the app. when the screen is locked. I just do a refresh when I need to see updated weather. The only down side to this is that weather alerts don't come in until you do a refresh. (If there are any. WB is a battery drainer.)

I like weather bug, except for one big thing. The radar maps are Terrible. When I am at my children's sports practices out on open fields with no buildings or even our cars nearby I like to keep my eye on incoming storms. More often than not WB shows clear skies when I can see a storm there myself. I am looking for something with more accurate LIVE animated radar maps.

Thanks for this. Been using it a few weeks now and is small and fast, great radar app. Along with a browser link to any weather site that makes you happy is all I need. I use m.wund.com; weather browser links are even more available than weather apps!

I do have WB Elite sitting at the Amazon app store if I ever want to use it, but I just feel it uses to much juice and too much app space.

I use WB Elite as well and love the radar map. Mine works very well. In case you didn't know, the maps only update like every 4 hrs. You will have to update it yourself, any time before that, by pressing the blue circle arrow in the upper right hand corner.

I'll give another vote for WeatherBug Elite. I had it on my previous phone, and when I upgraded to the Inspire it was one of the first things I loaded. It's flexible, as current as I want it to be, and the widget fits my home screen exactly as I wanted it to.

I've not had the problems with the radar maps that some have mentioned. If I feel like I'm not getting an accurate picture, I update it manually. Good to go.

As far as weather stations go, I'm in the sticks, and there's not one very close. I do have several different ones all within 10 miles of home or work. So I look at 2 or 3 of them and get a good feel for what's coming my way.

Hth.

I'm going to try Raindar. I've been using Radar Now for a quick look at the radar and it is very accurate and timely and has a small footprint. It uses your tower signal to locate you rather than gps.

I currently don't have a weather app on my phone, I rely on using the web if I need quick weather info or radar. One app that looks interesting is BeWeather even though it's a paid app. It relies on data from Weather Underground (my preferred weather source) for its info. I may consider this down the road (or just hope that it shows up as Amazon's free app of the day )

I've been using Weatherbug elite, and been happy. But I got the Elecont Weather app when it was Amazon Free App of the Day recently, and am intrigued by the unusual clock widget, and the geeky meteorological detail they provide. Plus you can compare the forecasts of two different weather providers easily.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.Elecont.WeatherClock&feature=search _result

Hasn't replaced Weatherbug (yet), but it has supplemented it regularly. Plus they throw in earthquake info, for whatever that is worth to you. I was traveling in Richmond on the day of the big shaker a month ago, otherwise I would probably just laugh at that.

Yeah I switched to that fancy Elecont one. I use it mainly for weather in other cities, it scrolls so smoothly. I have 5 cities and works great. I also use direct browser links to wunderground. I also just switched to Chrome on my PC and use the WB app in it which is pretty nice.

For the UK I use three:

  1. Weather Pro from Meteogroup (they're the ones behind www.raintoday.co.uk).Their forecasts are value added not just vanilla model output. It has weather, radar and satellite for Europe.
  2. Rain Alarm for quick radar and rainfall notifications.
  3. Short cuts to the UKMO website.

I did try some of the apps that scrape the UKMO website, but found it as a quick and easier to use the bookmarks.

I just downloaded that to give it a try, but every time I open the app it downloads something to the phone. If it keeps downloading something every time I open it, it will be a rather large app! Think I will stick with Beautiful Widgets and get my severe storm warnings via text message from Severe Studios.

I use Weather Bug Elite. Deff worth the $0.99. I am also a trained spotter on our Fire Dept and live by this thing. Love the animation and accuracy. This all definitely depends on where the information comes from. Most of this information comes from your Airports or NOAA.

I've been looking for one that has one thing...animated widget. I'm not into weather enough to really get into the maps or anything but I want the "current weather" icon on the widget to be animated. I don't know why I care so much but I can't find anything that has that.

Default WeatherBug failure

I've used WB for over nine months all around the US and it was fine. I especially liked the "follow me" feature. I believe that with the last Update, all went south. The following temp feature quit. I contacted customer support who valiantly tried to help me, to no avail. I gave up. Sad, but true...

Thank you for sharing everyone. I was looking for a lightweight weather app that shows current condition and hourly forecast without too much extra stuff, and AccuWeather Quick came the closest for me

I seem to change my weather app every few weeks (after reading through threads like this)... recently switched to: Palmary Weather for Android | AppBrain.com which I find very nice. Easily swipe from city to city. I have a shortcut to this app and one to Raindar, happy with that set-up (for now). Others I've tried:

Weatherbug Elite
Yahoo Weather
Elecont
Wunderground browser link

I think that Palmary one looks the best.

I use GoWeather, which I haven't seen anybody use. I like the animated weather, forecast, and the straight-forward but pretty widget. And it gets its info from wunderground.

Another here for GoWeather. It's pretty accurate too. On a misty day last week, it told me that visibility was 1.6 miles. I could just make out a distant landmark from my 7th floor office window so I measured the distance with the GIS mapping software I use at work and WTF.....? It was exactly 1.6 miles away!

I combine that with a nifty little widget called AIX Weather which shows temp/rainfall/weather for the next 24 hours. It gets it's data from Norway of all places but again, it's very accurate.

One that's bankrupt?

How do you "design" weather? More rain I suppose. A quick search for "UK Weather" on Appbrain put this on top of the list: UK Weather | AppBrain Android Market

Up untill now, I was using My-Cast weather. I found it less of a resource hog then Weather bug. It did basiclly the same thing. You could install a widget for radar, sat, forcast, etc. I ended up paying for the no add version I liked it so much. However.. HOWEVER (you listening Mycast people), I upgraded to the motorola Admiral XT602 today (sprint) and it DOES NOT WORK. It's incompatable. I'm kinda pizzed now. Sent email hoping to find out if they have a new version in the works, any work arounds or maybe, they will refund my money. I really liked this app but now, they are on my list. ;-(

I have Palmary on my phone, and Elecont on my Galaxy Player 5.0. Elecont has more info and radar (although I still use Raindar because it's faster). Both have nice widgets.

Elecont Weather is pretty nice. I got it when it was free on Amazon.

Hello

Can anyone advise on a weather app if you're down here in New Zealand
Currently downloaded the free app WeatherBug, reading previous threads, the elite appears to be a good additional paid app.

Thankyou

Uses google maps, shows storm tracking, has a compass on it, allows you to change the reflective angle setting on the different radar images to eliminate "noise"....this app is awesome! Rainy Days who??? (plus rainy days just went add supported )
This app is perfect for long range travel in my motor home, just like having storm radar in my plane. This will give me live radar by my GPS location. With this and WC or WB you are set for a day on the road. THANKS for the link, it's just what I was looking for.

The dev(s) behind Baconreader and TweetCaster put a weather app on the Market earlier this week. The app's name is 1Weather and it's beautiful as well as functional. It's not compatible with a lot of devices at the moment, but it works fine on my HTC Sensation.

The app works outside of the US (although radar is unavailable), but to install it you'll need to get the APK from Android Police.

I tried this a couple days ago, looks like it could be a battery hog (very animated). I kept it about 5 minutes, back to this one.

I like the look and feel of 1weather too. It's the most polished weather app imho.
However I did notice that it drained the battery faster.
It is still on beta so I know it will just get better with time.
You guys should try it out.

I've tried out the Beautiful Weather Widgets, but the largest one I could find was 4x1 and it hasn't updated the weather info in the past 24 hours (not even when I select refresh). Perhaps the paid one is better?

The Weatherbug widgets doesn't seem to go up to 4x3 and I don't seem to be able to have several cities in the actual widget.
This is also what I'm looking for - especially one that will allow me to switch IN THE WIDGET between cities.
