Notsure Writting a new App need HELP!

Hello everybody, I am starting to write an app but the app will require a password/pin to enter and I was wondering if somebody could then get the password somebody typed in by checking the the heap memory?
So for example, I type in my password ON A ROOTED MOBILE and I leave the process running, could somebody then do a memory dump and find the password? Im guessing so but could somebody do that to my mobile if they didnt have it in hand? If so, how can I prevent this problem?
