So does adw
I prefer ADW, have had a lot less FC's with that. The reason I prefer these over sense is due to the buttons on the bottom of sense, I never use any of them! But I do love sense's black theme
I've been testing out many Home replacements the last couple of days and the thing that makes me revert back to Sense is that the HTC widgets aren't accessable in any of them and I do like those the most...
Although I really like the docking bar in PandaHome... (bit more customisable then the docking bar in ADW...
I love LauncherPro! Best I've used so far. I like the new option to hide the notification bar at the top....however I've seen some screenshots that show a widget that has the notification bar stuff in it (like battery, cell strength, etc.) Does anyone know what this widget is? These would be nice to pair together.
Launcher Pro. ADW is great and offers a lot of options, but Pro is catching up easily in some areas, and already leapfrogging it in others: the option to have a 4x5 screen (!), the helicopter view ala Sense is much smoother, and hiding icon labels. The dock customization is excellent.

So LauncherPro v ADW? Theres a newer version of Pro since thread creation isn't there?
Many new users, whats your choice? Why?
LauncherPro has just came out of beta. If you buy the LP Plus, you can have Sense like widgets.
I've always liked LP since the first day it launched, but I've heard really good stuff with the recent ADW now. So will try out ADW again and see how I like it. One thing that's a big bugger for me is the sheer amount of promissions that LP now requires.

I have been using ADW on my nexus and i love it. I havent tried LP in a while so maybe ill check that out and compare it. I love the way you can have side to side scrolling apps instead of just up and down.
LauncherPro here for me because it's a little bit more stable, plus the emerging widgets fill in big gaps in the market i.e. the people and bookmarks app
To be honest, if i could change the dock in sense, that would be me happy. I love the silver dock in lo but because of the sense widgets, everything else seems lacking
I agree, sense would be perfect if I could change the idiotic dock at the bottom to the three panel LauncherPro one. Don't suppose there's an app for that?
I like Launcher Pro but I still prefer ADW in terms of features. Not used Sense in months. Had a few good widgets but you can replace them all for free or a few quid.
in ADW you can select how many rows and colmns you have on your home screen. In effect, it places the icons closer together and then stretches the widgets to fit. Seemed to work well for me on 5x5 but didn't try anything higher.

I'm running Launcher Pro Plus and I'm pretty sure you can do that in LPP now, although I can be a dumbass sometimes and may be wrong...
...but I think in to menu-preferences-advanced settings-scroll down and Kapow!
Maybe lol

ADW lets you set custom actions. For example you can set a custom action to occur when you swipe up, or down on the desktop.
IO have set those to show the helicopter preview. If launcher pro let me do this i would use it right away, because for 1 handed use it is an amazing feature.
However, it looks likely that the launcher pro dev won't add this.
I've tried 4x6, which is actually pretty nice. 8x8 and such would probably come off quite well on the Dell Streak, which has a truly weird homescreen setup anyway.

One of the features I like about ADW

And 4x6 homescreen with labels off is fitting perfect.
I'm using 4x5 at the moment, 5x5 made it look really weird...I guess because I didn't adjust my widgets. I think having 4 columes optimal though if you're lazy like me XD Will try 4x6...I thought the icons will be really small with 6 rows.
I've noticed that too...I like ADW but I like LP much better and I simply want to go back...but I'm giving ADW a week to see if I might change my minde.
ADW supports scrolling widgets in things like Pure Messenger. However they may have added this in LP now.
The dockbar feels most customised and I like the fact you have the main dockbar with calls and internet links on (and the draw) and you can also flip up or assign it to a button but you have another bar you can access and add even more apps to.
Also there is Gesture swipe which I set to camera and hiding the status bar.
ADW now has different themes, not sure if Launcher Pro has any new themes/icons.
Also a bit of it is down to my personal choice, I just feel more at home with it now. May fire up the latest Launcher Pro see any changes.
ADW offers you infinite level of customization, but it is not as smooth as launcher pro. I use both but most of the time launcherpro.
Is extra battery used when running multiple home screen setups?
I was under the impression that on my Droid X, I should remove all of the "stock" widgets in order to reduce battery drain (because I'm currently using LP, and not actively using any of the stock widgets).
Is it purely widget based, and as such, running ADW as well as LP, would be ok, assuming you're using the same widgets (as they would update simultaneously, instead of autonomously with each UI)? Would a "live" wallpaper on one cause a drain, even while using the other UI? Would there be a need to use something like Autostarts independently for each UI be necessary, or would it cover both UI's regardless of which one you launched it from initially?
Last quick question: The Droid X allows you to re-shape/size the original widgets.
Is there any way to make this possible in ADW or LP, as the main reason I don't use any of stock widgets is because their shape/size is terribly small in LP (or at least I haven't sorted a way to figure out how to do it)?
Thanks very much for your responses,

If you have one launcher set as default, then restart the phone, whatever was running from your other launcher(s) will have never started. So they shouldn't use more resources. I believe the only way "everything" would run is if you were to remove the default setting from your launchers, then swap through all of them...
Correct me if I am wrong, but that seems to be true for me at least. Whoops, I just realized I was in the Desire threads, I was talking about my Incredible. Probably the same setup however.

RGR. I made sure to do a re-boot and battery pull (RIM habits die hard), after swapping to LP. I did swap back to double check my stock UI, and oddly found a couple apps on the screen (google gestures, for one, which I've since removed). I believe Market showed up again, and a couple others, that I should have written down for troubleshooting sake.
I do make sure that LP is set to default through Home Switcher, but I just scratch my head on possibly using a secondary UI, on the off chance that it would be for a secondary purpose, without having it as default.
The idea would be, having a higher speed UI setup, and one for social spam. It would be nice to swap between a multiple account Twitter/facebook/weather UI, and a more pure, low battery use phone/text/email only setup (not that I have any complaints about the X battery so far).
Re-booting via the power button actually seems to use a fair bit of battery power, so unless there's a given that swapping UI's on the fly can remove the widget use of another UI that's not "in use" at the time (be it stock or aftermarket), I suppose flipping between them wouldn't do much help for me.
/I bought a secondary battery, and have an external USB battery in the car as well, and have never needed either on the Droid X yet (since converting from the iPhone and BB Bold 9000, the battery on the X has been outstanding), but I like to prepare for the worst.
//EDIT: I found the thread from google, but I imagine it applies to the incredible, the X, and the Desire, equally. Assuming a similar OS/ROM build. It just seemed to be the most relevant topic I could find.

LP PLus has the resizing feature working on Droid X stock widgets. You have to buy it to be able to do that.
Whatever happened to Helix? It's not showing up in the market for me anymore. Maybe because of the upgrade to 2.2? Then again helix 2 isn't there either. It has been giving me a ton of fc's since updating so I was looking for an update on market.

I used ADW for 3 months and just recently switched to LauncherPro Plus. I find it to be faster and smoother overall. As to the swiping feature, you ccan set those for the dock icons. Just because it's the internet icon doesn't mean that a up swipe has to be internet related.
I actually did buy it, but can't seem to sort out how to do that. I'll do some digging though.
Thanks much!
Press and hold the widget you want to resize and drop it without moving it. An orange frame will show up that has a resizing market in the bottom-right corner. You can use the marker to resize the widget.

I actually favor the Sense UI. The only thing that nags the f#c& out of me is when I create a contact shortcut on the home screen, Sense UI always places a small icon on the bottom right of the contact icon, obscuring the face / picture of the contact. So I have the direct contact there, but the face is always partially covered. Stock android doesn't have this issue.
Anyone know of a way to get around this? I am nagged as hell with this issue. In my opinion, it's one of the few things that makes the Sense UI a little less bright. That and the fact it doesn't rotate the Home Screen.

i use launcher pro, i like it for the dock bar across the bottom. i have stacked all my favorite apps in there so now they are just a click away. Where as with ADW you can only dock 2. and the 3d app drawer is really nice!!
the most recent scrollable widgets bookmarks, contacts, calandar, etc are outstanding and the new facebook and twitter widgets are the best facebook and twitter widgets period.
one thing i have read here though is swipe/gesutre for the dock icons.
what are you all talking about?
i have 3 docks that i scroll through will all of my main apps. the homescreens then are entirely widgets.
actually there are 2 folder shortcuts. one for games and the other for tools.
anyway. what gestures are there for the dock icons and what do they do?

When you swipe up from one of the dock icons you can launch a different app, so in essence it gives you access to upto 30 quick launch apps. To configure simply long press on a dock icon, a dialogue box will come up, select "swipe gesture action"
LauncherPro is nice looking and has nice widgets however it lags and slows down my phone a lot, I had to remove it, I wanted to love it but it didn't live up to expectations.
