Default Managing contacts without a GMail account

Are there apps out there that will allow me to manage contacts without having them on Google's servers? I want a desktop application that syncs with my phone (haven't bought it yet, but probably HTC Desire) and a csv import/export facility so I can get everything in and then out again if I decide to completely change technology in 5 years.
I don't want to put all my contact details, and calendar etc up on Google.

Thanks

Search around. USB sync options are discussed in many threads. I just came from one in the Android Lounge.

I can recall CompanionLink off the top of my head but there are certainly others as well.

I would SERIOUSLY consider Palm, BB or WinOS, then.

An android phone's function is severely reduced without the google cloud.

Not sure if it works with the Desire, but HTCSync can be downloaded from HTC's website and allows USB sync of contacts and calendar with Outlook. And the usefulness of the phone is entirely unaffected (at least, unless you have a bunch of stuff already in Google apps that you want to merge in).
