Is there such a thing as an EVO stand alone antivirus application?
Is it recommended to run your PC's antivirus on the EVO while it's plugged in as an additional hard drive?
It'll only see the SD card's content right?

I've never had a reason to run AV on any of my phones. Are rootkits really that big of a risk on this phone?
Unless you root your phone, and only if you're a complete fool and install whatever comes your way, then no, rootkits, virii, and whatnot are not a risk at all.
In short - a virus scanner is doing nothing but eating up cycles of your battery.

This isn't the case at all if your not rich and dont have money to pay for all these apps but you do have a computer with the android sideload machine on it... Then viruses become quite an issue... And the av you use is even more of an issue I am currently running kaspersky internet security on my pc and it has found several viruses in apps already so to say that there is no threat is absolute rubish! Please before you say something like that go do some research!
It has found something called TROJAN.EXPLOIT.LINUXLOOTER which is a trojan that will load itself on any os for smartphones and try to steal your banking information! go look at the gfi report. So there are viruses and we need a good av for our smartphones and I would also recommend getting a firewall as well. Due to trackers loaded into websites. Active-X loaders are also something to worry about they can also be coded into websites. Those to can contain and some can run malicious code on any system regardless of the operating system.

Um, you are sideloading apps. There is a reason why devs aren't letting people load just any crap onto their phones. It's because it makes you vulnerable to malicious code. The only reason you need anti-virus is you.

I have never had my house broken into, and there are no active burglary rings in my neighborhood that I know of, but I still lock the doors.
Just because there are no active viruses in the wild for Android does not mean these apps are "useless". Who knows, they might not catch the first one that comes along, but I dont think I am worse off by having it active on my phone.
I don't see how you can look for something you don't have signatures or definitions for (and how can you, for malware that hasn't appeared yet?). These apps sound a bit like the panaceas that used to be sold by traveling medicine shows - supposed to be good for what ailed you, no matter what it was, or indeed whether the manufacturer of the "medicine" ever heard of it.

I have worked on lots of computers with viruses. Most severely infected systems end up that way because the user was being an idiot.
Viruses on the Android system are going to be self inflicted.
If you only purchase apps through the app store or download reputable TESTED software then running Anti Virus on your phone is a total waste of space and a great way to kill your battery faster.
Bottom line Anti Virus software producers are cashing in on peoples ignorance when it comes to cell phones. I'm sure they are laughing all the way to the bank.

Like any AV software, Lookout tend to overreport things as dangerous when then are merely questionable.*
They are, however, bright guys and know a fair bit about the security of the platform.
But keep in mind AV software wouldn't do a very good job of selling you more AV software unless they reported they found something.
