In the Menu>Setting>Sounds and Display>Media Volume I have this setting to max and I'd still like my music louder still,....Does anyone know of a way to increase the Media output Volume??

DSP Manager may help but no app can exceed the limits of your device's amp. The only solution is such cases is an external amp (i.e louder stereo).

Yeah, I have the same problem on my Thunderbolt, whether its its speaker or headphones, I'd like a bump in volume that doesn't require rooting.

I think it has a lot to do with the headphones. The stock HTC earbuds that came with my phone did not produce the same volume as the Sony I bought recently. The difference is really HUGE.

This is mostly true, but sound and digital audio CAN be pre-amped. And depending on how it's done it may clip/saturate the sound. This degrades the sound quality but most people dont notice for at least a few decibles. Almost all pop music today uses a similar technique to make the music "sound" louder than it should.

This kind of pre-amping can also damage speakers though. However, most speakers can withstand it to some extent. Some just degrade a bit faster over time, some arent bothered by it at all, and some could blow and become nearly unusable.

An example of an app doing this would be PowerAmp. You can see in the EQ it has a pre-amp setting. You can use this to raise the volume, but because of the above reason be careful in how much you raise it, try and do it slowly over time.

I've been trying to fix this same issue for movies on my samsung galaxy s. One solution I've come across is changing the volume at the various steps on your volume slider. To do this, enter your dial pad as though you were going to call someone. Then type in "*#*#197328640#*#*" to open the service mode.

In the menu that appears, you can navigate to audio and change the values on the volume settings for various outputs (speaker, headset, handset, etc.) Unfortunately, this didn't work for me because my max volume was already set to the maximum value. Also, some people find they have to go through this process every time they restart their phone.

As for the apps like alostpacket mentioned, I'm looking for exactly what he described, but for all media files. Namely, videos as well as music. Anybody know any specific apps like that?
