Default Turn Based Strategy Games?

Hi, been having a poke around the market but haven't found anything to my taste or at least has free demos available.

Can anyone recommend any turn based strategy games for Android? I'm on a Desire so preferably ones that don't require trackball or keyboard!

I'm thinking of games like Advance Wars, Final Fantasy Tactics, UFO: Enemy Unknown, Lazer Squad type thing. Anything that involves a good bit of turn based combat and some form of levelling up.

Thanks!

If you fancy Final Fantasy Tactics get a GBA emulator (Gameboid) and download the roms to your phone. Works a treat.

UniWar is a great turn based game. It doesn't have any levelling up though, as it's more about armies trying to conquer each others' bases. It's great multiplayer action as well.

Another vote for UniWar.

You can play against people who have it on iPhone too.

Ive been thinking since i got my Desire that it would be better suited to something like Advance Wars and turn based strategy games . Having tried Nesoid i have to say playing the likes of Mario was too tricky to be enjoyable without a physical D-Pad .

Since you specifically mentioned Advanced Wars, and Final Fantasy Tactics, why not just get Gamboid and get Advance War 1/2, FFT, and Fire Emblem1/2 ROMS?

But at last, i still havn't found anything like UFO:EU on the android market. But when PSX emulator comes out, we can always get the UFO:EU for play station rom

Advance Wars works great on Gamboid and you can even save your game on the free version of Gameboid. I also heard Battle for Mars is like Advance Wars but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Crimson fields looks pretty good, looks like history line 1914-1918 which i used to love on my amiga, that would be awsome to get ported.

Downloading CF now drodin

Any more suggestions? I'd love something in the vein of Shining Force / Tactics Ogre / FF Tactics etc.

Here's a few titles people have recommended, but only Battle for Mars seems to fit your criteria (I personally haven't tried any of them yet, aside from Steambirds which is cool, but not the type of game you seem to be looking for).

Strategy (Turn Based)
--Age of Conquest - Noble Master Games - $2.99-3.99* - 4.5 stars
--Armored Strike Online - Requiem Software Labs, Inc. - $3.99 - 4.5 stars
--Battle for Mars - Larva Labs Ltd. - $4.99* - 4.5 stars
--Steambirds - Spry Fox LLC - $.99* - 4.5 stars
--UniWar - TBS Games - $4.99 - 4.5 stars

I'm constantly update this list, so if you do find something you like that's not here, feel free to tell me. =)

I did look at Crimson Fields which is suggested here, but seems like it has some issues/bugs that need to be worked out.

Sorry to necropost, but I noticed that you mentioned Laser Squad. I think the game Stellar Forces will be right up your street. It originally started as a Laser Squad remake (and includes the first 3 LS missions as well as about 50 more), but has now advanced to include other features such as 4-player missions and a much wider variery of equipment.

Since we're all at it, how about Great Little War Game? Currently featured and one review site called it "Advance Wars with a graphical makeover"

Try 'Post Modern', it's new to the Android market and has game mechanics like Advance Wars

Try AGLWG (A great little war game) it's a war based game and people seem to like it a lot. I played the first couple levels and it's a lot like other StRPGs.

Default Small General

Just picked up a fun little game called Small General, reminds me of Perfect General for the PC circa 1992.

Considering this thread keeps getting posts; not sure if it works but UFO: Alien Invasion, seems to be close to UFO:EU.
