Any decent RPG games coming to Droid?
Been on the look out for a decent 3D RPG for my Desire.
I've seen Crusades of Destiny, but I'm not keen on the graphics. I read a post somewhere in these forums from the developer of Ravensword for iPhone, and he said he was looking at converting it to droid.
Till then are there ANY decent RPG's out there. Fantasy ones, preferably in 3D. Or can someone recomend any decent PSX ones that I can use with PSX4Droid? Been playing Diablo for a bit, and its not bad.
I'm thinking of a droid equivalent to Oblivion, Fallout 3, or Dragon Age. Yes I know it's impossible to port these monsters to the droid before someone comes out with a sarcastic reply. However surely the early Elder Scroll games are low enough quality to be ported. Maybe even Morrowind.
The Droid? You mean the Droid 1? I doubt anything better than Crusade of Destiny will even work on the Droid. You'll want something more powerful... like the Droid X\Droid 2\Galaxy S.

Sorry my bad. I meant Droid as in Android LOL. I'm on the Desire so pretty much any game will run.
Zenonia just came out recently. It was originally an iphone game i believe. It's basically a combination of any gameboy zelda game but with a quest system very similar to what you would find in WoW. I'd check it out, very influenced by anime and has a cool story so far.

Get an emulator. Particularly the SNESoid. There's a bunch of rpg games (such as zelda, final fantasy series, mario rpg, secret of mana etc...) on the snes in which you can play on your desire, with the snes emulator.

Great game! I've been looking for something like this that doesn't require an emulator. Thanks!
Have you tried Dungeon hunter? its from gameloft, its a great rpg Finished it with the warrior class going to try the mage now!
Definitely worth the money..
You can always go with Chrono Cross or ffVII for the psx. if you buy the gameboid emulator i suggest the golden sun series, FF tactics advance, sword of mana and such. also im not sure if you would call it an rpg, but Hero of Sparta from gameloft has some decent graphics.

Here is a rundown with release dates:
- Crusade of Destiny (Already out; See Market)
- Ravensword (Release Date Unknown)
- Earth and Legend (2010)
- Dungeon Hunters (Already out; See Gameloft.com)
As stated previously, you can also opt to buy and download PSX4Droid and run PSX (Playstation 1) games on your phone, though this app is still in its infancy and contains a good number of bugs, and compatibility is decent at best.

What I really want to see is an old school RPG, ala an old Dungeons and Dragons-style RPG, not all this "action rpg" Diabloesque crap. Pushing buttons really fast is good mindless fun and all, but lets see a game with some story, genuine character development, etc.

I agree. I'm no anime fan so any game with large-eyed characters or dialog even a 5-year-old wouldn't say is right out. Unfortunately for me, that eliminates most of the suggested titles. I think I'm expecting more out of my mobile phone than it can give.
Fear not, pocket legends is comming to android here very shortly. last post from a dev about it they said it will be here in ess then 6 months. go google pocket legends. think world of warcraft for your phone!!

I just sent them an e-mail about a release date for android, and the response was "near the end of the year".

It is not that we are expecting more than our phones can deliver, it is that classic RPG in the way that we understand it is no longer (and very rarely was, for that matter) a mainstream/profitable category. It means we have to wait and pray there is someone as passionate about the old-school as we are, and willing to develop a product knowing that it will not be as profitable as the modern incarnation.

The problem is WoW is not an RPG; at least, not in the definition as it existed 14 years ago. WoW and games like it are what I would call "action/adventure in a fantasy setting" games. Classic RPG is more in the vein of Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, the old Final Fantasy games, the Elder Scrolls series, or even non-fantasy settings like the Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, or Fallout series.
Heavy on detail which may not be directly necessary toward the gameplay , but in a way that gives a depth to the game world. Typically a large variety of items - but with a sense of purpose and design to them, not the mass-generated random crap ala Diablo and its spawn. Enormous amounts of detail in the control of various stats and equipment for the character, and (typically) a party controlled by the player with equal levels of control. But most importantly of all, everything that happens in the game is story and character driven.
What does that mean exactly? It means that everything which occurs in the game, from the combat to the quests, exists to as a subtext to the events of the character's purpose and story which you experience. In a game like WoW, there is no story, or at least not one that is relevant to the purpose of the game: getting phat l00ts and killing mobs. It has been a gradual evolution that I mark as starting with the original Diablo game, in which "fantasy" games were introduced to the mass market by way of making them brainless and action-oriented. It is the modern gaming equivalent of a "Monty Haul" campaign (google it if you aren't familiar), in which the point of the game becomes the game itself, and an endless sequence of material-based rewards.
are you role playing in WoW? ummm yeah. you're just role playing with other people, at the same time. that may be why they call them MMORPGs, not classic solo RPGs.
an RPG is an RPG. it's the adjectives you put in front of "RPG" that make the difference.

By your definition, nearly every game in existence could be called an "RPG". Need For Speed? RPG. I'm playing the role of a driver of a supercar, while developing character stats (track times) and upgrading my equipment (the car).
ummm no. you are not developing character stats. track times are not character attributes.
but role playing a driver and upgrading your equipment(which in a round about way is upgrading performance attributes) correlate.
you just wish to pigeon hole RPGs into something that you are comfortable with. you prefer the linear sytle of single player RPGs over the sandbox that MMORPGs have ushered in.
i played PnP D&D(the ultimate RPG) when i was younger. single player RPGs are much like a DnD campain. MMORPGs are like living in the WORLD of D&D. they are both very RPG-like?

To a degree, yes. I think the problem with mobile platform and flash/web-based "RPG" games is that they distill the combat aspects of the genre and don't carry over the story side of things. You end up with a game like Zenonia (don't get me wrong, I bought it and its fun) that is about A: getting loot, and B: killing stuff. The story which occurs in the game is secondary to the action; a good "RPG-lite" game. I will just simply leave it as "I wish someone would develop a story-driven RPG instead of an action/adventure RPG".
As a side note here, if someone made a game along the vein of one of those I listed earlier, with solid production values and great gameplay, I would have no hesitation in putting $20 down for it. Developers need to start looking 5 years down the road instead of 5 years in the past. Phones are no longer phones; they are gaming-grade multimedia platforms, and the software for them should not be treated like they are trying to create Tetris clones for a Gameboy. Lately within the last 6 months or so there has been a positive increase in games with some depth and such (Zenonia is a step in the right direction), and I hope the trend continues.
I think part of the problem lies in the type of gaming people typically do on a phone. It's not a platform where most people will sit gaming on it for hours. Additionally developers are in a rush to push out product quickly because the marketplaces are growing so fast no one will invest long term. It was easier to create an epic RPG journey when you knew the platform you were developing for was going to be there when you finished 2 or 3 years down the road, not so much when you start developing for a 500MHz phone and by the time a year has gone by we are closing in on 1.2GHz dual core phones.

Not to resuscitate a dying thread or anything, but does anyone know of any games like the OP asked about except 3D or not doesn't matter to me? I just got an HD2 am now enjoying Android 2.2(such an improvement over my BH2 with 1.6) and am eager to try some more interesting games than the casual ones I've been using.
As stated earlier there is definitely a difference between MMORPGs and the more traditional single player ones and while I've played the MMORPGs, I don't love them and tend to play them only with family and friends if asked and the original Neverwinter Nights is a game that is always installed on my home computer, despite being through 6-7 different computers and laptops since I bought the original game.

I fully agree! Though I played wow from day 1, there is no way you can compare a game like "Torment" and the quality of the story with modern Mufmorgpfs (or however the hell it spells).
The latter ones are more or less Duke Nukem on Facebook.
I wish I could find a game like CIV for Android...

Anyone know if/ when the game Battleheart is coming to Android? It's probably my favorite game I have on my iPod Touch, but I plan to get an Android phone, and I don't want to have to cart the two devices around with me all the time. I found some old articles via Google saying that it'd eventually come to the Android market, but it's been kind of a while, and still nothing...
It's good for 4 pounds and has good graphics; it is heavily influenced by manga. If you live in the USA sorry I don't know how much it is in dollars I live in England
