I haven't tried any, but a quick search on the market shows there are a bunch of them.

There are a lot of free Chess games available, just type the word "Chess" into the Android Marketplace and you can find at least 16x under the free category.

Best to read the descriptions and user comments to find the best one for you.

I used this chess game alot Chess for Android - Android app on AppBrain

It's very good and simple to use in my opinion
