Will a Gameloft game for the Galaxy S run on the HTC Desire?
Hi Guys.
For reasosns I can't figure out, some of the high end GL games aren't available for the Desire, even though it's a high end phone.
I'm thinking of Modern Combat Sandstorm, NOVA, Assasins Creed.
I know some people with the Desire have these, and I'd LOVE to know how they got them, as I cant even get ones acquired from less savoury sources to work.
The way I see it, is they're all Android games, so if I was to purchase one for the Galexy S, would it still work on the Desire? Or is there something in the coding that makes them phone specific?
Thanks in advance.
Andy.

I always understood that the Desire was just as good as the Galaxy S. Need for Speed Shift runs like a dream on mine. You can't get much more graphically heavy than that.
I believe they do work but you need to find the correct version which is compatible with your device.
Try selecting another phone on their website with simalar hardware and see if it's available then.
Otherwise find it using Google. :P

Maybe I'm wrong.

Your wrong, it's just games have to cater for everyone and there are allot of HTC phones out there using snapdragon including the current Google flagship Nexus One.

Okay you've completely lost me. Are you saying that the issue isn't the GPU, but the CPU. In this case Snapdragon?
If that's the case, then there's isn't a problem. The Desire uses the Snapdragon CPU.

I know that, snapdragon has intergrated graphics chip, Desire uses the QSD8250 which has the Adreno 200 GPU.
It's been upgraded slightly with the Desire HD which uses MSM8255 and Adreno 205 but even that is still not as fast as the PowerVR 540 GPU in the Galaxy S
The point was that there are many phones using the same snapdragon CPU as the Desire, including the Nexus One which is why I brought it up so it would make little sence to make a game only for the Galaxy S, imagine the sells they would lose.
This is why you can still run the latest games on the Desire and other HTC phones with simalar hardware even though the Galaxy S is faster.
Do you understand now? or is all of this just going over your head?

No need to be so god damn sarcastic, and arrogant. We can all spout numbers, tech specs, and show off our knowledge of certain things.
To answer my ORIGINAL question, a simple YES would have sufficed.
If I wanted to know EVERY intricate detail, right down to what colour underwear the lead designer at HTC was wearing when he thought up the Desire, I would have asked for it.
Galaxy S GPU is much faster than the Desire and N1's but that's not the point. Gameloft games all run great on the Droid 1 too.
On Snapdragon they work but at crappy framerate.
Quadrant advanced, Neocore, nenamark all shows similar Score with Devices such as N1 and Droid (OC to 1Ghz) and NFS Shift runs great on both.
So I believe that GL games could run very well on Desire, if Gameloft even optimized them.

all hes done is sat in his mums basement googleing all his info, wouldnt let him get to you.
Gameloft designs their games weird (for certain devices to be specific). Using an Evo 4G I can download, play and buy all of their current games, but none of them were designed using the Evo or for the Evo. If you look at the .apk files on the SD card that get downloaded you'll notice that they were designed for specific phones (which they just made available for others).
An example is Assassin's Creed. If you look in the download folder you'll see that the file name has "Motorola Droid" in it.
As a side note with Gameloft games, once the "major" file has been downloaded and installed, it will appear in a new folder under "Gameloft." If you want to save some space you can delete the 4-5mb file in the "Download" folder. You may also want to check the download folder (as well as others on the SD card) because even after an app has been uninstalled, it leaves alot, if not everything, on the card.
