Default Sentinel 3: Homeworld - award winning sci fi Tower Defense now on Android!

Latest update: Campaign 2 DLC expansion pack now available!

Origin8's epic sci fi Tower Defense game "Sentinel 3: Homeworld" is now available on the Android Market (category Games > Casual). Early ratings and reviews indicate that Android gamers are enjoying it just as much as those on iOS, where Sentinel 3 won multiple awards and was placed in many Top 10 of 2010 lists. Don't worry that the first two instalments aren't on Android, it's not a plot heavy series and you can jump right in to the action with 3

If you've any questions or comments on the game let us know either in this thread or through our support address. Here are the game's key features:

- A 20 level campaign across 14 unique maps.
- A powerful commander unit which can level up and gain new abilities as you play.
- Over 20 unlockable turrets, orbital ship weapons, automated drones and abilities at your disposal.
- Customize your weapon loadout in the Armory to match the demands of the mission.
- Specialized structures and units provide unique tactical gameplay.
- Use the landscape and destructible defences to maximize the effectiveness of your weapons.
- Unleash the Sentinel's incredible ship weapons system - if you've got the power to do so...
- Deploy mobile attack drones to harass the enemy and augment static defences.
- Construct boosters to buff your offence, and upgrade to top-tier towers for devastating special moves.
- Resource harvesting and interest system adds a new dimension of risk and reward.
- Endless modes for all maps with online highscores.
- Classic mode allows you to compete for scores in a pure skill-based game mode.
- View strategic layouts from the leaderboards - see how the best players think.
- Visually stunning environments, towers and enemies with fluid zooming and scrolling.

Enjoy!

Not a bad game, shame the maps are not actually in 3D, also the resolution is quite low, doesnt look very nice when your zooming in.

Could use a HD version.

agree with you....the mechanics are rock solid though...everything to level up and unlock make this a game worth coming back to for a while

Thanks for posting the link, ogrenator. New forums accounts are restricted from doing so - I'll pretty up the first post once I'm not a newb

We're looking into providing HD graphics right now. The current version of the game is pretty highly optimised to fit into 35 mb, but now that sales and ratings are looking good we know it'll be worth it to offer HD as a secondary download. I'll keep you posted on our progress.

Yeah, the game is really good. When the HD version comes out, I will definitely be getting it for my Xoom. The current version is fine for a phone though.

One problem that I have came across is, while zoomed out fully, the menus are cut off for towers that are placed on the edge of the screen. Maybe make the side menus vertical for that situation? Other than that, its a great game.

The HD graphics update is now out - let us know what you think!

This update also fixes the installation problem on devices with a small download cache (mostly Samsungs). You should now be able to install the game trouble free

Many thanks, just downloading the HD package and the game now looks detailed even when zoomed all the way in.

Good job

This game is the first game which I bit the bullet and bought without waiting for any reviews. After days of playing this, I finally completed the game. Totally loved it. The new HD graphics looks fabulous on my tablet.

Will there be any further expansions such as new maps or new sentinel weapons?

We're also up on the Amazon Appstore now.

The iOS version has a large DLC expansion pack with a second campaign and more weapons which we hope to bring to Android, but as we have no Android in-app purchase system in place yet it won't be for a while. As always I'll keep you posted on any news.

This is an awesome game, with great graphics on my Asus Transformer and good replayability. I've played through on easy and medium, now i'm going through on hard.

I'd really love more levels for the game, and i'd be happy to pay for them. If there are no in-app purchases on Android and it means downloading a new version, no problem.

It'd be nice if when you changed your difficulty it showed you which is the next map to play. Right now if you beat it in easy, then set the difficulty to hard, to start the next hard level you have to scroll back to work out manually which one to play. That's a minor quibble.

We're working on an Android IAP system right now, so hopefully we can bring you Campaign 2 soon

In other news, Sentinel 3 is in today's Android Market 10 cent sale! However, our secondary download server is taking a beating due to the number of new players, so my advice is to grab the game now at sale price and do the full installation in a day or two. If any of you have been trying to download the data packs, we're sorry for the inconvenience and hope to have it cleared up soon.

This is what I've been doing. Games that I knew would require additional data I've just bought and downloaded the app without even opening it. No need to rush to see if the app was worth the price when the price is $.10

I just bought this game. Which package should I install, the 19MB version or the 40MB HD package? My device is a HTC Desire HD.

You'll need the 19 Mb package either way. The Desire HD will probably be able to cope with the HD pack, but if you run into any graphical glitches the HD pack is easily uninstalled so you can revert to standard.

On a similar note, we're in the Market 10 cent sale once more, which means our download servers are being hammered once more. If any of you receive an "incorrect file size" error, the file is fine, it's actually a connection error. Keep trying and you should be able to get through.

Love the game.... it is complex in the amount of choices and ways to finish levels.... give some new guys a hint.... don't just keep buying new turrets when you don't need them.... build just enough to allow you to get through the wave... even if you have extra money don't buy the extra turret until you need them and you will see when you need them. The reason for this is you get approx 5% interest on there money you have when you finish each wave....... so the more money you have especially in the harder levels the more interest you get and in some of the levels it can make the difference because when you think about it if you have $2000 at the end of the wave you will receive an extra $100 which can buy you another turret... also waiting to but the turret will make sure you put the turret in the right place and know what turret you need.. i had to learn this the hard way and only squeaked through some on easy but after I started this method I was winning a lot easier on the harder skill levels.

HD packs works well on the Desire HD. Tough going at the start, but managed to go through the campaign fairly quickly only to be met by a mega challenge at the final battle. Four tries and still no victory. Amazing game.

The Campaign 2 expansion pack DLC is now available on Android! It contains a 15 level campaign across 15 brand new maps (all of which can be unlocked for Endless mode), new weapons, enemies and landscape features, plus a new Commander Mech specialising in ranged offence.

All players get a couple of new levels as a free teaser, plus you can play with the new Mech up to level 5. Enjoy!

I got more than my moneys worth from this game. But an update with an in-app purchase for a paid game? Something about the principle of the whole thing seems wrong.

I would have been less upset if Origin8 was more forthcoming that we have a 27MB update, but it really is only 2 levels free, after that it is an in app purchase to get the rest rather than:

Maybe next time just put the new updates in a separate game using the same engine and call it Sentinel 4?

A few people have mentioned they'd have preferred a separate app instead, is it the extra data download that's the sticking point? The expansion pack is packaged in exactly the same way as on iOS, in pretty much the standard manner for delivering substantial extra content to a paid game. It seems on Android people prefer DLC to be the province of free games?

I paid 10-cents for the thing. It is well worth its full purchase price. I don't think you guys are greedy or charging too much. Even at US$9 for the whole game, it would be worth it in my opinion from what I have seen from the first campaign. Sentinel 3 is really very very good. It ended my love affair with RoboDefense.

I just do not like where this is going. It is something I hope does not become the standard in the market.

Look at what you have now. You have a paid app, but after buying it you actually just made a partial payment and get part of the app. You have to pay more later, and the amounts are not all the clear when you bought the app.

It changes rules that we are familiar with:

- Paid apps are paid apps.

- Free apps moslty have have ads, in-app purchases or the like. Ultimately a Freemium app will cost you more than a paid app.

Part of the fault is in the lay-out of the markets. In the App Store you see a purchase price and the list of top In-App purchases. In the Android Market, what might happen is someone buys it, have the 15-minute refund window expire and only than does he realizes the entire app costs more than he expected.

Maybe put a list of the cost of the in-app purchases in your description, like the App Store has?

Another option would have been to have the Original Sentinel 3 sold with Sentinel 3 Gold (your +DLC version).

Another issue. I am one of those willing to pay for a app just to avoid adds. You kind of placed adds in my add-free Sentinel 3 game.

Last on the extra data download. If you offered a separate the add-on I could have passed or bought it. Now if I don't want it, the market will keep reminding me of and available update. Basically, it eats up 27MB of space which I may not want just to avoid update notifications.

I got X-Plane, which I knew from the start had paid adds on's which would cost an arm and a leg (about US$60 total if I remember)... but I knew that going in. I just feel like in the case of S3, the rules changed mid-stream.

I really do appreciate the time.

Ugh I've been sitting on this one. I should get around to playing it, but I've played so many tower defense games already. BTW Jelly Defense and Fieldrunners are awesome. Nough said.

The game is phenomenal. However I am annoyed, at how the Amazon version does not get updates. I bought this game from the Amazon market (I was unaware at that point, that that marketplace usually gets shafted by developers). Granted the app is cheaper on the Amazon market (currently, and the price I paid in October is 0.99, whereas on the Play store, it is 2.99). I could've bought it as well during the $0.10 sale, but I still didn't know there was a difference in app versions until just recently.

It's not only for the sake of paying twice, and on top of it paying 3x more than I originally paid, it's also the fact, that I'm pretty sure if I bought the PS version of the game and subsequently removed the Amazon version, I would lose my save file. I just beat all 20 campaign levels on Psycho, and would like to not have to do it again.

Any chance an Amazon update is coming soon?

Amazon recently released their in-app purchase system to us devs, so the Amazon version of the game can finally be brought in line with the Google one. An update including all fixes to date, plus the Campaign 2 in-app purchase is now in submission, and should be with you in a few days.

In other news Sentinel 3 is part of the Because We May indie promotion, and has price dropped on Android, iOS and Mac. If you've been on the fence now's the time to grab it
