MAME4droid is a version of iMAME4all (iPhone, iPad) for Android, all of them developed by David Valdeita (Seleuco), port of MAME 0.37b5 emulator by Nicola Salmoria and TEAM, and it is based on GP2X, WIZ MAME4ALL 2.5 by Franxis.
MAME4droid emulates arcade games supported by original MAME 0.37b5 plus some additional games from newer MAME versions.
This version emulates over 2000 different romsets. (go to MAME4droid site for a list of games that could work).
Please, try to understand that that with that amount of games, some will run better than others and some might not even run with MAME4droid.
Please, don't email me asking for a specific game to run.
Owners of older devices should not expect good performance. Tips to help performance: use lower quality sound or switch it off, use 8 bit depth, underclock the CPU and Sound CPUs. Disable stick and buttons animations and disable smooth scaling also.
After installing, place your MAME-titled zipped roms in /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/roms folder.
MAME4droid uses only 'gp2x wiz 0.37b11 mame romset'. Google it or use "clrmame.dat" file included in /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/ to convert romsets from other MAME versions to the ones used by this version, using ClrMAME Pro utility, available in this URL:

so I have tried R-type 1 and 2 and bump and jump and neither rom works. All three say missing files..... so how are we supposed to get this working as it sees the roms but always says file missing. And the clrmamepro program with the dat file from mae4droid doesn't do anything.

i think you've got to use the 'clrmamepro.dat' file on a pc, to modify the roms that you have to work with this version of mame.

I did that yesterday and it just marks them as bad and never tried to fix them. I see the issue is that the three games I tried seem to be missing files in the zip and no matter where I get them from they all are the same... really odd. Oh and they fail in the desktop version of MAME with the same build that MAME4droid is made from so I know it is not an issue with the app.

I hear what your saying, and have experienced that issue before. I have found its usually the version of mame that is at fault, I've had over 1000 mame roms since 2002, and some versions of mame show all the games available on my pc, when a different version of mame might only detect 500 or so games even though I still have 1000 roms.
It's all about finding a version of mame that 'detects' them all, typically powermame for pc works best from what I have found.
Also keep in mind, this version of droid for mame is 0.37 or something to that effect, where there have been years and years of updates to mame for PC since 0.37 was current. I tried a rom WEC Lemans, and it shows on the warning screen & says the game works, however there is a warning that says the colors are incorrect, sure enough there are like 8 colors in the game on my xperia play, yet I can play the same WEC Lemans rom on my pc, in a powermame version of mame, and the game is perfect, therefore its not the rom thats at fault, but the version of MAME. hope that makes sense and clarifies the game incompaitability issue some what.

I have dug to the bottom of this and found that a lot of roms today have missing files in them because the newer MAME versions do not need them in there. So this might be a great thing for Android, but considering you cannot find the right roms any more this release is kinda useless for most roms. Oh well.

I have looked in a multitude of places and no go. So yea when an EMU is released like this but is based on an outdated version that needs older ROM's that cannot be found anymore it is pretty useless. So I stand by my comment.

Not promoting theft of roms or anything just trying to prove a point and lets face it we all know that everyone does it, and the games are 20+ years old and no more cash can come from them... yes I know R-type is up in the market, but I payed for an original YEARS ago and I'm not paying for it again.

And that is the main issue. The list shows them as supported, but only if you can find the rom that works with this version. So it is pretty sad when the first two games I pick out are both non functional on this build and no hope of finding the working versions.

No it just means you have NO IDEA on how to look for the right things and need everything handed to you ...not gonna happen. You keep saying its useless while I enjoy all the games .

Shoalin95 is right. I downloaded this last week and have had a blast with it. I have played dozens of games on this emulator, and the only one I have found not working so far is Metal Slug, which works just fine in the TigerArcade emulator. It seems that a lot of folks out there don't understand that just because a program doesn't work right on your particular device, that does not mean that it "sucks" or is "worthless" or a "waste of time". It might work fine on a lot of other devices. If a bunch of people are saying that it works fine and you are having problems with it, it probably means either you are doing something wrong or your device does not support the program. I for one have yet to find a version of Doom that works on mine, but obviously others have gotten it to work, so that doesn't mean the programs suck. To the people that want to get a good romset, just Google "gp2x wiz 0.37b11 mame romset" and download the entire romset. Trust me, it does work.

Look people, all I am saying is that I have hit more then 30 sites trying to find a few games that I want to play. Every site carries the same rom files and even those that say it is for this version of MAME. It is obviously not my device and since the IMAME is based on an older rom set that is impossible to find now I rate this as worthless.
If you think I'm full of it try and find bnj and r-type that works with this. bnj roms always show as 12k and are always missing files. And since those are just the first two I tired and both failed that is a really bad start. Sure other roms may work, but 2 for 2 is a really bad start especially when those are two games I really enjoyed growing up with and them not working is a fail in my book.

If you search for MAME4all, you will find a few options to get the full rom set, so I do not agree. This app was not as complex to port as a full MAME will be.
I have no issues getting games to work, but do agree that trying to convert a newer romset is problematic at best.

still no go. So if you all seem to find working versions on this build of mame then cool. But unless you prove it then I call no go. I am done searching for these "working" rom sets for this version. Oh well it was a nice try and I'll play a few other games that I like that are working but so far 15 out of 20 roms that I want to play are not working and missing files, but work on the latest windows MAME... so I call no joy.

Not sure what you are searching with, but typing in MAME4all and or GP2X will come up with places to get them. The GP2X was the first device to get MAME4All.... I think. Not sure about that. Perhaps the first device to play the games decently.

The games you mention work with the beta of Tiger Arcade. AvP works work the public release. Not sure when the dev us releasing the new Tiger Arcade that plays a BUNCH of games.

Bump n Jump works for me, as does every game I tried, which due to my compulsive nature, has been a lot.
can not even get the roms to download properly on my samsung galaxy tablet. When it downoloads it says getfile zip or when I try to unzip it, it says unzip failed. Any help would be great.

You do not unzip them. They need to be zipped and the file names unchanged. Also needs to be in the directory path as the instructions note.
How are the controls? My main complaint about emulators is the controls. It just plain sucks trying to play a lot of action games with touch controls. I'm fine with my OG Droid and a Game Gripper but I'd rather play on my Nook Colors larger screen. Console emulators have RPGs and whatnot that don't need fast twitch style of game play but Arcade games are pretty much all action games.

i see how older roms dont work, unfortunate. had a look at that converter (clrmamepro) and cant really work it out either :/
finally a download a newer version and got 1 game to appear in the list, and got stuck on the "press ok" anyone let me in on what you press/do to get past it?

can someone please post here or PM me a download link to the tigermame.apk file, I tried 2 versions yesterday, and they installed, but never found the games, the app just kept crashing. So if you have a Working version of tigermame on your xperia play, android device, lemme know
Mame4Droid is AWESOME!!! However, I seem to have inadvertantly caused the FRAMESKIP information to display on the upper right corner of the page ("auto 0 100% 40/60 fps"). How can I get this to go away? On a PC I know to fix this you would hit F9. But there is no F9 on DROID. Any ideas?? Please let me know.

It took me about an hour to get the roms to work, but after that I got the ones i wanted too. They run very well. Is there a way to make thev controls better though? There fine for something like frogger but not responisve enough for pacman. Ive fiddled with sensitivity and it doesnt seem to help much. Turning off control animation helped but not enough.

hey I've download the game Cadilacs and dinosaurs for the Mame emulator and then I put the rar file on the rom folder but when I start the emulator it says that there are no roms so what to do? I need to convert the files into "wiz" file or what? and how to do that?
