So Final Fantasy III came out a few days ago and I would really like to buy it but don't want to use a credit card to buy the app, especially since it's $15.99. Can I use a Visa Gift card to buy it or is that not possible because of it being international? If not, can I use paypal to get the app?
Thanks in advance! Sorry if posted in wrong place, this is game related and this is the game sub-forum!
Way to expensive! Buy paying that price people will lead the way for others to up their prices to match and before long you will all be paying £29.99 for a game!

I would gladly pay $15 for a great game on Android... but I despise JRPGs, especially Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy 7 is the one I particularly dislike, having played it and found it to be grossly underwhelming compared to the PC RPGs from the same time period.

I had no problem paying for FF3. It is a great game and worth every penny in my opinion. My only complaint is the network check, why the **** does this need an internet connection to play? So much for using it on the airplane.
I would not pay $15.99 for any game app no matter what. Advanced Office Suites, Financial and Money Management tools maybe but games no.
I thought $6.99 was a lot for a few others but $16 no way. If Nova 2/3, Modern Combat, Madden 12 and others can be under $10 so can everything IMO.
Well said rkkeller. I am in total agreement and why anyone would pay so much for an old game is beyond me when you can pay just £4.99 for amazing games such as Nova 3, Mass Effect & Back Stab!

I assume the network check is to ensure it's not a pirated version

That is absolutely what the network check is, but irritating DRM is exactly why people pirate games. Square has my money, but now I will think twice about giving them any more if they are going to handicap the way I can play it.
This is about to go off the rails so I will sate again that the game so far is great and if it weren't for the ridiculous DRM I would say worth every penny.

Not everyone places a high value on flashy graphics, or likes the kind of games you mentioned.
Regarding the idea that $16 is overpriced, and that paying for it would only encourage Android game developers to raise their prices... well, the fact that people refuse to pay that much for mobile games has already caused developers to raise their prices in a way that's more sneaky and gets people to pay far more than they would have been willing to pay up front (I speak of freemium, of course). Honestly, I would rather have the market flooded with quality $16 games where you own the whole game after paying for it, than have the current situation where all the new games coming out are really ambiguously priced.
Personally, I'm not jumping to buy FFIII, mostly because I already have the DS version and I don't like JRPGs enough to pay for it again (it also helps that I just discovered Cthulhu Saves the World). But if the "old games" that I really loved--say the classic Ultimas or the Quest for Glory series--suddenly popped up on the market for $16, I'd buy them in a heartbeat.
There isn't more love for this. Is it that expensive given
the amount of game play you get? When you think what
you pay to go to the cinema, this seems like great value.

The problem is that the game is relatively expensive.
In a vaccum, 16$ isn't too much. But, if you compare it to most other Android games (including other AAA titles), it's much more.
If you think it's overpriced. then don't buy it. It's simple.
Plenty of people (including myself) think $16 is perfectly acceptable for a quality game, and given that Final Fantasy III has hit over 50,000 downloads/purchases in less than a week, I'd say plenty of people didn't mind paying $16 for a solid title.
Sure, other titles like Mass Effect 3 and Backstab cost much less, but their ratings/scores are below 4. Final Fantasy III's rating is 4.6. That's a huge difference. I personally wouldn't bother with a game unless it earns at least a 4 rating.
I bought it, it's a great game and I'm enjoying playing it again. Just wish my battery lasted longer so I could play it some more.
People whining about the price can just get lost, this is quality game worth every penny.
If you want quality games on Android you have to be willing to spend a bit more, otherwise you keep getting crap like Nova and Modern Combat over and over again with updated graphics... YAWN!!

I think the main factor that's causing me not to buy it isn't the price, but that i own it for my DS already. But i can agree with this statement. If they ever put final fantasy tactics...id buy that in a heartbeat.

IVe found the discover gift cards from rite-aid to be the best for online shopping, some of the other brands get blocked if there is a possible reason for future payments. [also you can use a CC to buy them, other are cash only to buy]
Will be trying out the walmart top up gift card soon with google to set up GF kids online, so they can buy online but be able to add money.

Just to be clear here, if you played "Final Fantasy III" on the SNES outside of Japan--this is not that game. (Unless you imported it from Japan of course.)
Final Fantasy III was never actually released outside of Japan until it was remade for the Nintendo DS in 2006. This Android game is a port of that DS remake.
The game that was released for the SNES as Final Fantasy III in North America was actually Japan's Final Fantasy VI, and all new remakes/ports/whatever of Final Fantasy games use that numbering.
I bought this game and am thoroughly addicted now. So is my wife who is "lovoing" me for getting this game on her phone as well.
I am 20 hours in and loving it. I am looking forward to beating this game a few times a few different ways and thee are MANY permutations thanks to the 23 jobs you have access to.
In my opinion, Final Fantasy 3 IS worth the $16 price tag for the following 5 reasons.
1.) VERY high quality RPG experience.
2.) AT WORST 40 hours of game play...if you are trying to do things the super hard way. If you do it the slow and steady way, 60-80 hours worth...the first time.
3.) The Jobs system means that you have 23 different ways per character for four characters to experience the game.
4.) NO IN APP PURCHASES!!!! You buy the whole game the first time and you play it as long as you want and can get every option.
5.) Finally, a game from square soft, which if we support will lead to more ports of square soft games. YAY!!!!!!
one more thing. On IOS Square has released Final Fantasy Tactics and Chrono trigger. I want these on android as well.
The initial iPhone release had blurry text (I believe this has been fixed in an update) and slowdowns (this has been partially fixed in an update). The iPad release, which is a separate purchase, suffered from the same slowdowns.
It's a great game, but when paying $18 for an official release I would expect better graphics and performance than what we get via an emulator.
I don't mind paying for quality games, I understand that porting PSX/PSP/iOS games to Android is probably a difficult process, and I'm happy to support Square porting more RPGs onto Android. I just hope that they make sure they have a quality port before they throw it on the market.

I very much agree with you. Final Fantasy III was very polished by the time I got it which was only maybe a week after it came out. If they do this with all their releases it would be awesome.

I don't like this, I LOVE this. And so I am saying so. $15 for a game with a 4.5+ star ratting with over 1,000 reviews is no longer too much in my opinion. In App purchases are ruining gaming on Android for me.

I thought $6.99 was a lot for a few others but $16 no way. If Nova 2/3, Modern Combat, Madden 12 and others can be under $10 so can everything IMO.
This feeling among mobile gamers is why In App Purchases and in app adds will continue to be in many games. FFIII has neither. If you don't mind the IAP and IGA then you will be alright. As for me, this game is spoiling me. I am now more than willing to pay $5+for a game IF it will last this long and not try to make me buy anything.
I remember the good old Palm/PPC days when every game was between 15-30$. Alot of these games being release today on phones are just as good--if not better--as titles being released on DS/PSP games which are anywhere from $30-50 when they are released.
The amount of work that goes into making a game like Shadowgun, FFIII, Real Racing 2, and so on has got to be insane, let alone testing it for loads of different devices. Ya, some games are cheaper, such as those from Gameloft. But take a look at what their company actually does. Their customer service sucks and they rarely update their titles. Plus, Gameloft has been around for a long time (before PPC and Palm became big they were making games for Symbian phones) so they can afford to sell their "high quality" games at lower prices (with most of their revenue coming from the iOS end of it anyway).
We won't continue to get quality games like FFIII, Shadowgun, and many others when people bitch about the price all the time when they fail to realize how cheap the price really is solely because it's not your normal $3 POS game. To give you a little perspective as to why this is already happening: I haven't been playing alot of games lately (on any platform), and haven't been on the forums much since January. Having started searching the market again over the last few days there have only been a couple of noteworthy titles, IMO, one of which is IAP which I refuse to even install (alot of which have been recently released, BTW, which means we've gone seven months with little to no good releases?).
Games like final fantasy III can bring you more than 50 hours of gameplay !
So paying 16$ for 50 hours compare to paying a game 4$ to play 10 hours with it I guess that I have plenty of fun for about the same price !
Of course the only risk is paying 16$ for the game and not enjoying it, you really need to be sure you'll like that kind of game !

I'm sure Gameloft saves some money by not having to pay a real game designer to come up with original ideas. All their games are blatant cheap ripoffs of popular console games. And even their games with price tags have IAP now.
FFIII is a port of the DS remake, which still retails for $20. Those who don't think a $20 DS game is worth $16 on Android are contributing to the idea that larger game publishers shouldn't bother with Android as a platform for anything other than you IAP games. (And those who don't think it's worth the price because it doesn't have hot 3d graphics--OBVIOUSLY this game is not aimed at you, just like FPSes and MMOs are not aimed at me.)

Hey, does anyone here know if they included the mastery items and the secret dungeon in Final Fantasy III for Android? I am just about to be able to beat the game but I want to find all the extra stuff first.
