Default A SNES Emulator for the G1 Android platform

Just wanted to start letting people know that there is a Super Nintendo Emulator in development for Android. Demo should be out in June. Most of the core internals are complete just need to finish up the rest of the graphics engine. Check out my website and sign up for the latest news and updates of this product. SuperGNES - SNES Android Emulator

Thanks!

I can't wait for this to be released. I grew up on snes games. I imagine it would take some time getting used to the lack of the L and R buttons on some action oriented games.

Voice controlled!
Could you imagine? "jump" "kick" "left". Would be entertaining to say the least.

yeah, that's one of the major obstacles. there's only one button (camera) that's in the right position.

Default ITS HERE!!! SNesoid!!!! (SNES Emu)

Yongzh has done it! A SNES EMULATOR!

First one to download and comment.

Im downloading the roms to test now. I will update this post shortly. Just wanted claim on the topic :P

Sound is meh, needs an update. im sure he will do this soon.

Chrono Trigger (works w/o sound. force closes w/)
FF2 (works great)
FF3 (works great, but kinda glitchy)
SMRPG (doesnt work ;
Earthbound (works great)
LoZ: LttP (works great, but almost impossible to make it past the first part. its raining and you cant see the ground. had to work from memory to get to the side of the castle, and still couldnt find the bush to lift up to enter the dungeon)

anyway this is all I had time to test since im at work. will test more later.

over all a great app. works better than Gensoid IMO. worth the 3$ just becuase I have the best RPGs ever on my phone - SMRPG ; ;

No way!! Going to download it right now.

His NESoid is an excellent app and I've very happy with it. GENsoid is also very good. I only played the free one with Sonic.. but just getting Sonic up and running so smoothly and playing flawlessly is an achievement in itself.

I need to try this one out... then fight the urge (and probably loose) to buy it.

hmmm... there doesn't seem to be a free version yet. And now that I check... it looks like the free versions of Nesoid and Gensoid or gone too! Or am I missing something? I like to try it before I buy it. Although this guy has done great stuff in the past.. I'm tempted to buy it anyways.

Fro... please let me know how it is when you get a chance.

updated OP.

and I was kinda wondering why there wasnt a trial verison of this. I suppose SMW would of been the ideal game for the trial. But at the same time when Gensoid came out I didnt even bother with downloading the trial since I knew how well Nesoid worked.

It works, buy it, you will be happy.

Nice.. thanks for the update. I'll probably pick this up at some point (I wish I had more space on my phone.. I'm getting low). I'm a little dissappointed to hear about Zelda... because that is that game I was planning on playing the most! I'll probably get it anways though. So many great SNES games out there.

And thanks Swizz for the update on the ROMs.. that makes sense. I was actually surprised when the demo came with a ROM.. I was wondering how he got away with that.

dont get me wrong, zelda works great. but when ur dealing with emulators, they dont display the game the same way a consold would. I forget the exact term, but it is not being applied with this emulator for whatever reason.

A good example would be, on SNES emulators for your computer, for the game Final Fantasy 2/4j, when you are in the Cave of Mist, you would have to toggle the option to turn the mist on and off in the cave via the emulator, becuase the emulator could not render the mist the same as a console. thats is what is happenind with zelda, expect you dont have that option with the emulator on Andriod.

if that made any sense lololol.

If can go by memory and manage to get into the dungeon, then the rest of the game should play fine...with the expection of some other areas that make use of rain/fog. like Death Mountian, and the swamp in the dark world are 2 spots that come to mind that might be hard to navigate.

I still have more testing to do, but as luck would have it, it is a very busy day at work.

I tested a few more games out last night. They all worked great w/ and w/o sound. I still can't find a working copy of super mario rpg tho ;;

Mega man x
Mario all stars jp version (better than usa imo)
Zombies ate my neibhors (big props on this one since it would not work on Gensoid)
Super metroid
Tmnt 4

Still waiting on that update tho lol.

anyone know about rom patches? chrono trigger works, but some of the levels are blacked out, or the backgrounds are in the foreground blocking all the visuals . it seems to be pretty common, ive seen it so far in mario world, super metroid, and chrono trigger. Mario kart also has speed issues, and seems to play in slow motion with the sound on. It plays a lot better without sound though.

anyone know of any patches to fix the problems with the roms? or if patches do fix things.

you know what, those are the exact problems i was trying to describe on chrono trigger and super metroid. is there no way around these?

oh yeah, and last thing, the "control pad" or at least the direction buttons will stick sometimes, and keep you going in that direction even after you let go, seems to happen to me about once every few minutes.

but even so, im very happy this app came out. If they fix some of these bugs, this will be the best app out there.

Love this dev so much.

you download the update the same way you downloaded it from the market place, the button will just say update on it instead of buy.

started chrono trigger last night, and didnt notice any problems.. but i didnt play for very long.

others i tested that worked
Donkey Kong Country
Mortal Kombat 2
Street Fighter 2 Turbo

the controls on the fighting games make it pretty impossible to play, but they actually come up and display nicely

I have been losing my save states. It seems to happen after the phone loses power but it has also happened at ramdom. Like i saved my game, put the phone down for an hour, picked it up to load a rom and when i hit restore it starts the game from the beginning and my save state is gone anyone else experiencing this???

Some games are unlikely to be emulated (which currently don't work), or if they do get emulation support in the future they'll be unbearingly slow.

Starfox, Super Mario RPG, and both Kirby Games among some other titles I can't remember offhand have their own CPU built into the cartridge, which many people don't know about. Not only would the emulator be emulating the SNES cpu, graphics hardware, and sound processor, but it'd have to emulate the game's built-in CPU as well.

That's why those games don't run right now; the emulator does not support those external processors.

Their site says they do not plan on including the SuperFX chip which games like Starfox and Donkey Kong Country make heavy use of.

If a PC can emulate them, then andriod can as well. Just gotta wait for the devs to figure out how. All in due time.

Is full speed Emulation possible? The lag and sound glitches are too much for me to want to install these emu's currently.

it launched a long time ago and works great for me on my unmodded G1. Some minor issues with button sticking but its tolerable.

I downloaded the lite version and was trying to play some of the old Final Fantasy's. I have the Sprint HTC Hero and the virtual keys are not working and the trackball isn't being recognized as a Dpad. Anyone else having these issues and found a fix?
