Im a game developer looking to develop games primarily for android. I have some ideas for 3D games; quality level should be around Polarbit's Raging Thunder 2 and latest gameloft titles (without the performance problems ofcourse!).
Now, my question to the community is -- which genre of games do you guys enjoy most and with which games did you have the most fun so far.
I think it is a great idea to ask the people what they want before shooting in the dark . I think you should focus on the most popular titles in the market and analyze the qualities that they offer.
I think the most significant thing that users are looking for in new games is depth, quality user controls, and replayability. For example, Zenonia, which is a huge seller, offers many hours of gameplay, the controls are fluid and comfortable, and the art is done very well. It is quite an expensive game compared to others in the market, which really exemplefies the quality that users are looking for.
As far as genres go, I love action RPGs and I know there are many among me. If you could make a perfectly fluid FPS with great users controls(I havent found one yet), that would probably sell very well. With the lack of quality games in the market, I think people are willing to play anything that looks and feels great on their phone(given that it isnt just a casual game that you play in 5 minute intervals). You need to make people feel like they are getting their moneys worth. People will spend more if they do(check Zenonia).
I would also reccommend that as you develop new ideas, you may want to present them to the community before you spend a large amount of time on the project.
Lastly, if you developed an amazing MMORPG, your wallot will explode.
I honestly want a game that I can grow with. Something like a mix between the old school digivice key chain, pokemon and zelda.
A game where you pick a character and based on the choices you make throughout the game your character changes or evolves. Keep the changes pretty unique so even if you do beat the the game you want to start over and try to raise a different monster.
Set goals but also keep it open to explore
You would be able to fight online and through the game. Gaining points and experience.
It definitely needs a decent story line so you arent just playing for the hell of playing. But it needs to be something I can see myself messing around with for a few days or even weeks. Not just another game I can sit down for a hour or two tops and beat.
Put in a few mini games just incase you get bored with the basic storyline and need a break.
price it reasonably, keep up with updates and feedback, let me test it for free
Nah, dont listen to any of them! Fir a start id look at the top 3d games on iphone and see what sells. Personally my favourite games are currently raging thunder 2, lets golf, and assassins creed. But I'm waiting for skies of glory and need for speed, both if which are coming out soon. I think android could do with some more flying and platform games . My FAVOURITE thing would be a wipeout clone though. A high quality one though, not bare bones like speedforge. Id absolutely LOVE that, and us be releasing the only one of its kind on the platform!

OK, now to be totally different. Something simple like bejeweled or bookworm that I can play in a boring meeting at work would be nice. There are already some out there, but nothing really that close to bookworm.
Another type I know a few of us are looking for are soccer or football team manager apps. The ones that are out there right now have pretty poor reviews.
I dont understand why you all are saying to create a game that the market is just about full off. I mean you're literally saying look in the market see what is there the most of, then make another one.
Original ideas beat cloning the same crap all the time....or was there another reason you all bought Android phones and not iPhones?
I can gaurentee you take the time to truly bring something to the market that feeds to the racers, the shooters, and those like me who truly want both you win. Keep sticking us with the same iWannabe crap you fail. That simple.
The biggest thing I can say is that whatever game you make should be able to provide a lot of hours of gameplay, that makes people much more comfortable paying for it. There's always room for more FPS's and racing games, but coming up with a truly unique idea will no doubt make your game a success. For one example, I would love to see a Pocket Gods type game for Android, as their developer seems to be ignoring us.
Haven't decided on a game yet since I'm still working on the basic framework but I'm probably going with a racer or a sandbox style game. These are the games that I'll be able to achieve the best result in. I'll keep you guys posted!
