I keep being told my calls are being recorded... anyone know why?
Hi there! I just got myself a new HTC Legend, which is my first Android phone so I'm still working out all the features. There is one thing, though, that I just can't figure out. When I start a phone call, using the regular "phone" menu I get a small notice at the bottom saying "Recording Started" and when the call ends, a notice saying "Recording Saved". By now I have installed a whole lot of 3rd party apps, so I have no idea if this is a feature of one of those or something that the phone does by default... but either way, if it's saving my conversations I have no idea where it's saving them to.
I have considered the possibility that it has something to go with Google Voice, but I'm in Canada and it's not available here so although I installed it, I can't actually use it. I have since uninstalled it, and the notice still appears anyway.
So, that is my question. Hopefully someone knows what's going on with this.
Found your problem, see quoted text. Google voice doesn't record calls.
I see. So you're suggesting the notice occurs as the result of many 3rd party apps. Are they all working in concert to this end, or is it something the phone does automatically once I've passed a certain threshold?
well its not google voice but perhaps one of your apps is recording your calls as one of its features. if you can try to get an app killer and start ending process and see which one is the culprit, or look though them and see what they do or what privliges they take.
Actually Google Voice CAN record your calls. It's a feature =D
Yes, but it doesn't do this by default and to my knowledge it doesn't warn when it does it, but I don't know for sure.
What's more likely though? GVoice suddenly recording all calls or him downloading some 3rd party app that he has no idea about that's recording his calls?

By default, no. Warning, Yes, and you have to press a button.
Unless things have changed in the last month or so, which is entirely possible, but doubtful.
Thanks for the interest guys. This is a very weird thing and I honestly can't figure out what the cause is. Even weirder, this dialogue of "Recording Started" etc now only happens on SOME calls, though it doesn't seem to be related to the particular number, or the time of day (what other variables are there?)
As for the 3rd party apps.. I might as well list them all though I don't know how most of these could be related.
And yes, I have left this for last intentionally:
-Voice Recorder
It is, as the title suggests, a voice recording software that can only work when I launch the app and press the big red "record" button. There is nothing in the settings anywhere that indicates it can record calls.
That's it, other than the built in Android/HTC stuff.
Ok well thanks to whoever is interested enough to give it more thought!
