Default Would you give up Android for Windows Phone 7?

Hey stop throwing the tomatoes, this stuff doesn't wash out. Ok all kidding aside, with all the internet coverage of Windows Phone 7, the new Dell phone and the more consumer focus the OS is getting. The game support and xboxlive and zune integration. Anyone currently with android or even on the fence about android seriously looking at Phone 7.

Anyone within a new phone try it period thinking about turning your new android phone back in for Phone 7.

Maybe getting Phone 7 for the spouse maybe.

As a former WinMo user I'll definitely take a look at it, but I'm very doubtful since they decided to follow in Apple's footsteps. Oh the Irony.

I don't pledge allegiance to any OS. In all honestly I wouldn't jump on the Windows Phone 7 bandwagon right away simply because it's a completely new OS (rebuilt from the ground up or so it seems) and god knows there are things it won't support right out of the gate that it should. (Copy & Paste anyone?) So far I've liked what I've seen and will definitely play around with some of the phones. It'd have to be pretty impressive for me to switch though.

I think the one thing worth mentioning about WinMo7 is that it won't be as fragmented as Android. WinMo is probably going to have better gaming, but alas that is only one aspect of a phone.

From a UI design perspective, I cannot stand that tilework on the main menu. They need to hire some graphic designers or something.

like ashykat, I can be bought by anyone who i consider the best. a Windows 7 phone I highly doubt would have anything to attract me.

The forum was having problem earlier today. I guess they have to roll back to Thursday's backup tape or something because all my posting on yesterday are gone.

The site probably got infected. That usually is the reason for rollback.

Anyway, Android platform is far superior that Windows platform. The tile things on the WinMo 7 phones look silly to me.

I'm feigning curiosity, but I don't think that I can do it. Closed systems usually mean no mass storage mode, and no permitted file manager on device. Those are two biggies for me. Add those two things to the Iphone, and suddenly it's a worthy device.

The question for me is, WHEN MS fails in mobile, which OS will they throw their support behind?

It would have to be as pretty as IOS4 and/or WebOS. As smooth as a high end current Android and be greatly capable. Which is probably not going to happen considering that Microsoft always has an EPIC FAIL when it comes to smartphones.

I am on a windows phone at the moment HTC HD. I think it is fantastic but I don't like the look of the windows 7 interface at all. It is ugly and no cut and paste on first release. I am waiting to look at the Desire HD due out Sep/ Oct. Might just make the change to android.

Nope. I've never been impressed enough with WinMo, or even Blackberry, to say "I need a smartphone". Android and iOS have always intrigued me as being a cut above. I can't get an iPhone because the one provider that carries them offers no service in my area.

I was actually content to stick with my Motorola ROKR Slider (z6m), a nice phone in its own right, but when my wife's phone went out, we got a pair of Samsung Acclaims in a BOGO deal. It's gonna cost us about $250 (they put it on the bill) but we're getting $140 back in mail-in rebates, and we each got a $20 Google Checkout gift card. The Acclaim may not be a Droid X or HTC whatever, whatever the top Android phones are... but for two for a net cost of $70 for a pair you really can't beat it. And now I really like this phone. (The actual "phone" part of it is not quite as good as my old ROKR, in some areas, but the complete package is far superior, of course.)

Windows (for PCs) is pretty wide open. For gaming you have to be locked into this ecosystem tightly controlled by the maker of the console to have a smooth experience, unless you're a PC gamer and it's anyone's guess whether a game will run or not, and how well. With a phone, I don't see that restriction as necessary. Steve Jobs does, but I don't think I'm alone here in disagreeing with him on that.

Never. Going. Back. Sorry but even if they do outbeat android, or even iOS. I would rather use an "inferior" product than go back to winmob.

I see my comment has been removed? Are we discriminating against Android users who support Apple as well?

From what I understand, no multitasking. Its ugly. They are following Apples marketing game, no? Looks geared toward young people only interested in social networks. That's fine, but that's not me.

What's to like?

I was very disappointed when I saw what was coming. I was on WinMo, and holding out until it was announced.

They did an upgrade on the board and a bunch of posts were removed, including two thanks I got, LOL. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Nope, I'll be sticking with Android. The only other OS that may get my attention is the next webOS but that's just out of curiosity.

I've really become anti-MS through my dealings with their technology...from OS to .Net development. I'm really not expecting much out of them and so far WP7 hasn't shown me much at all. With the way things will be locked down I don't think it will have the potential in its development API that Android has. I stress potential because I still don't feel that the dev community around Android has used the API's to the fullest. Maybe its because I don't think an actual strong community of networking devs has formed yet or maybe I just don't know where to look.
