Does anyone know if Skype can be installed on Le-Pan TC970 android. Thanks
I installed it,(it took 3 tries), but never made a call. Went on to another project and then encountered other problems with the tablet and returned it.

Are you using the right size image for your phone? Hint: it's not the screen resolution because the image scrolls as you change screens.
Please add fine volume control.
Currently I cannot use my cell phone as an MP3 player because there are only 16 volume levels.
It's either too loud or too silent.
Other MP3 players and operating systems have 100 volume levels so that you can find your favorite level for each song.
With Android it's a nightmare to use headphones because the volume buttons of the headphones do the same as the cell phone:
They decrease/increase the volume too inaccurately.
If we have more volume levels, that problem will be gone!

I do not understand the question...On my PC, if I want a picture as wallpaper, I simply make it so and all of the picture becomes the wallpaper. On my phone, if I select a picture, it grabs the center 1/5 of the picture and refuses to let me shrink it to size..
I get pictures to the phone by hooking the phone up to my computer, opening pictures on the PC, and then opening the phone's files app and move files from the PC to the phone. I have no problem with the pictures in the gallery and get all the photo on the screen BUT, as soon as I choose 'use as wallpaper' the picture is cropped....
Very annoying
Another wild desire...I wish there was an actual book on the various versions of the android OS...I can find stuff on creating apps in 3.0 or 2.2 but I cannot find anything that tells me how to use the systems and I hate trying to read how to do stuff on the same machine I am trying to do it on..
I want an actual paper book that tells me how to use say 2.3...one with a decent index and not written in Klingon. In fact, I find it cheap and cheesy for a $500 phone to come with a 3 page instruction booklet written in micro print. Give me the option to get a real instruction manual.

Let me use my phone as an example since I still don't know what you have
The Droid X has a screen resolution of 480x854. However, backgrounds need to be 960x854 to not be cropped/resized. If you try to put a 480x854 image on it, it will the image to 480x427 so that it has the same aspect ratio as 960x854 and then resize it to fit. The reason for that is because when you swipe side to side to the different screens, the background image moves as well. It can't do that using a 480x854 image.
I am still confused...If I go to the Gallery app, I can see all of my picture on the screen. As soon as I select the same picture as wallpaper, it crops it to nothing.
Sorry, resizing the pictures has zip effect...I get the box, I expand the box, but it refuses to expand beyond about 1/3 the photo and what remains is a cropped mess.
Update...I found my problem...Using Photoshop CS5, if one tries to change the image size to the proper pixels, it does not take. If you change canvas size, all is well

This is related to what i said on page 6 where i complained about the scrolling on an android Acer phone giving me eyestrain because it was not smooth enough.
I really think Google should put more effort in speeding up Android because at the moment it is simply being blown away by Windows 7.5. Everyone i see who tries a Windows phone is blown away by the speed of it and are instantly converted to Windows as a result. This could be a problem for Android if nothing is done about it. Android needs dual core and quad core processors to get close to the speed of a single core processor Windows phone. This is an embarrassing situation and something should be done to improve it.
Another thing Google can learn from a Windows phone, and from Nokia in particular, is to include full offline turn by turn navigation on every Android phone. There is a free satnav available for android called Navfree that does this but it should be included on Android phones by standard rather than having to be downloaded from the market.
What is happening at the moment is that buyers think you have to get a Windows phone if you want offline turn by turn navigation and so they opt for a Nokia Lumia instead. Either upgrade google maps so it can do offline turn by turn navigation like on the Nokia Lumia, or include Navfree as standard on all Android handsets.
If these problems are ignored then i can see Windows winning a lot of customers from Android in the future including myself.
Something I would like to see is a direct link from the settings 'Android version' info to an actual how to manual that only applies to that version of Android. Every new version does something differently and 'help' really sucks.
I am new here, but so far what irritates me is no control over the permissions granted to apps, why every app in the market needs full internet access, and most of them also my location?
I do not want to root my phone, in case I screw up, so I would love to have a pre loaded permission manager.
All great suggestions with, for my needs, the laptop connection and java, want to see my video cam on my N810 while I am away like I can using my N82 cellphone!
Even if T-mobile forced Edge only for this, one phone not two to carry, also not to have to use the N810 if 3G and web cam were working.

What do you want to see in Jelly Bean/future versions of Android?
I really want better app integration with the os. For example, why can't we have a single widget for controlling whatever music application is playing at the time? (obviously said application would have to implement the apis to make this possible)
This works really well in iOS. There's a widget in the multitasking bar that can control spotify as well as the built in music player. I assume it works for other apps too but haven't tried this.
To expand on this, I would also like project majel (assuming it's real) to allow apps to integrate with it and support their own voice commands. Eg:
"spotify play tracks by adele"
"play tracks by Adele in spotify"
This should also default to using the currently running music app to play songs. So if music is currently running, "play tracks by adele" will use that, but if spotify is playing it'd use that instead.
I'm using music as an example because it's something that I would use extensively, but obviously it could be extended to other things too.
I also want Google to put its foot down and make it so that all manufacturer skins are OPTIONAL. They can be installed by default, but they should be uninstallable. Os integration won't work too well if Samsung is just going to replace project majel with s voice for example!
yes, many carriers think that you would love to have your phone cluttered up with useless apps you will never use, and also lock them so you cannot delete them (unless rooted)
But I use the golauncher app which has a very nice app drawer, great for organizing... I really would like to see it on Android it self.. Without the folders, I have 5 pages of apps.. that is such a hassle to look for something not to mention it just looks like a mess. With the folders I have them all fit on to 1 page and it looks nice and organized.
it would be nice if google would recognize these are our devices that weve bought with our money and maybe go a little more lax on the "insta-brick" security features. availability of a windows/mac based phone "flasher" could only help 3rd party and home user development.
I wish all my Android products could answer my phone. It could probably be done through a Bluetooth app. You know?, your phone rings while watching a movie on your tablet... no need to get up and walk across the room to pick up your phone, just put the movie on hold and answer it right from your tablet... what do you think? Is it possible?
CalDAV and CardDAV support, so you don't have to sync with Google Calendar and GMail contacts. Would be useful for business use so you don't have to have a Google Account.
Turn off conversation view for SMS/Messaging. It's not even a proper conversation view... if you've not sent an SMS to someone for a year it's deemed to be part of the same conversation! It's actually just messages grouped by contact in ascending date order. Even descending date order would be better. I'd prefer to have the option to choose how my messages are grouped, rather than being stuck grouped by contact. There isn't even an advanced search.
A decent IMAP client, which doesn't list every single directory (even sub-directory) of IMAP folders in the top level. Not great if you want to use it with your office shared e-mail system which has 10,000+ IMAP folders nested. And the junk folder is somehow listed at the very end of all of them.
Disable contact integration with applications. I decided to use the Twitter application one time and it merged all my followers and people I'm following into my phone address book. Without asking. With no way to undo. There's just an option to hide them. But my phone contacts .vcf backup files are now 3MB whereas they were 100KB before that. Never using an application like that again, definitely sticking to the mobile websites. Thankfully I've never used the Facebook application, that would have been a disaster!
Were I work my phone has to be on vibrate. I was wondering if there was an app out there somewhere that you can setup a timer for when you want your phone to ring and when you want it to vibrate. If there is please let me know were I can find it or if someone can create an app to do this. Thanks.

Check out Tasker. It can do that and much much more. For example, instead of setting it up by time, set it up by location using cell towers (for a low power solution compared to GPS). That way, when you get close to work, it automatically goes to vibrate. Or maybe set it up so when your calendar days you are busy, it changes to vibrate.

Press and hold on text until the selection highlight comes up, move the handles around to highlight everything you want, select cut or copy from the toolbar, press and hold wherever you want to paste, select paste, and profit.

Okay this worked, thanks! Getting the highlight to come up is a problem. I thini thr part I missed before was the toolbar. Thanks again.
we might be biased...but we would like native NFC tasks. A standardized way to get tags all over the place to control any phone, not phones just with nfc task launcher installed.
This would specially be useful for adding wifi networks at friend's houses and public spaces.
Alternative Menu List Scroll Concept (Apple Patent Friendly)
Hi guys,
I've been following the law suites on Samsung who uses patented concepts in their Android OS that is owned by Apple.
The most noticeable patent that Apple seems to have won in the batlle is the one that concerns the way a list behave when you reach the end of the list (either at the top or bottom). This is the effect that the list keeps on scrolling revealing an empty space. Then when you release your finger the list jumps back to the screen edge.
Currently Androids answer to this was to introduce a (not so intuitive) alternative which shows a little blue line that lights up right on the edge when you reach the end of the list.
The problem with this, is it brings back the "annoyance" that you feel your phone is not responding to your finger movements because the list keeps still while this (very unnoticeable) blue line starts to light up.
My Alternative Suggestion:
Apple's patent seems to focus on the effect that you see an "additional" space beyond the end of the list, and when you lift your finger the list jumps back to the edge. We need an alternative that keeps the last item of the list fixed to the edge (since any effect that would bring it back to the edge would be violating the patent).
Now the problem is the alternative should be easily implemented and not consume a lot of processing on it's own!
So my suggestion is to create and effect where the list of items, "pulls appart" from each other, like when you pull on a thightly wound spring and the coils of the springs separate in equal distances from each which sum is equal to the total distance you are pulling beyond the end of the list.
The effect should be applied to only the items that start under your finger. So if you have your finger on the 3rd item in the list, only the second and 3rd item should pull apart, while the first item always stick to the edge.
Then when you lift your finger the items jumps back to the "no space" state like, a tightly wound spring would if you let it go.
Because the last item does not leave the edge of the screen to reveal a space beyond it, this does not violate the Apple patent.
This effect is a bit limited to lists.
For documents we could have a "strech" effect that you would see if you hold a square rubber type material by one edge and then pull on the other end with only 2 fingers.
But this motion will require a bit of processing and I don't know if this is acceptable under the requirements.
Hope you guys like this alternative! And I hope to see it as an patch or in the next upgrade. I don't know how to even start coding my own effect for Android, so I can only share the idea.
If Android wants to or can patent this idea, I would love to give them permission to use my idea. This forum post is the only and first time I have mentioned this. So I did not see this or copy it from any other place!
Edit: PS. If this is of any help to Android: The Apple patent on this seems to be limited to "while your finger is touching the screen", so if you would say "throw/flick" the list or document and the document would move in that direction on its own and when reaching the end keep on moving at a exponentially reduced rate, so that it would look like it is "grinding to a stop" and then jumps back, it would not be a patent violation. So as long as you are not "pulling" the document or list beyond it's end (with your finger touching the screen) to reveal a gap, that is not part of the patented concept.

Reason: Added PS. part :)
damn AD-HOC WIRELESS CONNECTION. On vacation right now, set up my laptop for ad-hoc wireless hotspot like I did last 2 years and my Note doesn't see it. Thought something was wrong. My iPhone 4S sees it just fine.
WTF? How does Android not support ad-hoc connections? I'm shocked that iPhone does and Android doesn't. I'm rooted and tried a solution i googled but that didn't do crap.
I'm disappointed with Android right now. I thoguht it was all about being open and do everythign and anything iPhone doesn't.
Is there a reason given to why Android doesn't support this?
3: It'd also be nice to have the phone automatically switch to the mobile network if the wi-fi signal is poor (under a certain speed) or even use a simultanous combination of the mobile network and the wi-fi signal to attain the best possible connection no matter where you are. Not sure if that's possible, but it would be cool. As it is, my Inspire will ignore the mobile network entirely if it has even a hint of wi-fi connectivity, even when there's not enough to actually do anything with it.
1. Ability to remove folders from the photo gallery. Currently the gallery includes all the album art from my music folder
2. A lockscreen that can be enabled only when needed.
3. Cross device notification syncing. If I clear a notification on my tablet it should clear on the phone too.
4. Ability to delete video files in the Play Movies app. When I'm finished watching a movie I want to remove it from my device. Now I have to go to a file manager or use my computer to do that.
1.I want the ability to position the notification bar on any edge of the screen.
2.A mutitouch gesture of some sort where you can twist and change the screen orientation.
3.Reverse photosphere or the ability to use photo sphere to map an object in 3d and not your environment.
4.Face detecting call confirm.(im a notorious butt dialer)
5.BEST ONE: Customizable notification bars
A. its the length of the clock and u can slide it down to see th notifications in icon form on the side and scroll though them. And from there u can slide it across to see the full regular set of notifications.
B. tap the bar twice and it displays one panel where u can slide across to see the different notifications and slide it down for the regular bar.
Yeah, that alarm function would really be great. As of now it doesn't allow you to set the time interval according to whatever you want. It's pre- set to 10 minutes. Using an Xperia J now. and the screen brightness shortcut will really be great help. And saw Google docs editing mentioned somewhere, think that has already been done by no, hasn't it?
Why can't I change the refresh rates for every app that enables background sync in one place?
You know what would be really helpful? Being able to search by keyword for a specific setting (example "profanity" which would bring me to the "profanity filter" tickbox)

Hey guys! Most of the suggestions on here are great and I'd really love to see them in the newer versions of Android, but is Google actually aware of this wishlist? Would they implement some of these features on Android in the near future?

im getting the HTC EVO V 4g... basicly the evo 3d.. but.. its from virgin mobile instead.. im getting it on the 14th cuz the website has an awesome deal going on right now... 139$... totally doing it.
just realized this isnt this kind of wishlist so im editing it to what ID like to see in android: (lol)
id like to see something like a wine library put in.. something that can *attempt* to play .exe or .deb files... of course, if it takes too much, the system shuts it down (brilliantly thought up by the guys at google.. haha) so if the file is too extensive and would fry the phone, it gets shut down anyways... so id like to see an implimentation of wine...
