Default Hello, I'm a newb (questions).

Ok, like every newb I'm wanting to root my AT&T Captivate. (Mainly to get rid of all the AT&T specific apps that I will never use.)

I've found this 'one click root/unroot' stuff online.

My questions:

1. What do I need to get off the phone while it's still stock so that I can reverse the rooting if I have a hardware issue?

2. I'm using Android 2.1 and want to upgrade to 2.2, is this possible? Recommended?

3. When Gingerbread comes out will it be the same process to upgrade as previous question?
