Default Time for a new DROID, but which one?!

OK so, I have had my Droid (motorola Droid) since day one and it is time to get a new phone. I want to stick with android as I have had the iPhone experience and I was not a fan.

I LOVE my Droid but my sister needs a new phone and I want to open her up to the Android revolution the way I did, plus, who doesn't like a new phone?!

I am at a cross roads here in my decision as to what phone to get. I love the look and specs of both the new Samsung Fascinate and the Droid X. These are the two that I am leaning towards as I am a big social media person, I text more than I call and I use my phone for multimedia as well. Can anyone offer some advice as to WHICH one of these is a better choice for my usage type? Thanks in advance!

But please, for the love of all that is precious on this planet, avoid the Samsung.

If you have US Cellular in your area, you might want to check out the Samsung. They have the Mesmerize, which is the same as Verizon's Fascinate, except you get to play with all the toys Verizon locked out.

Any quick reasons as to why to avoid the SF? I am a Verizon lover so I dont think I would ever move over to US Cellular. I just like VZW better.

The Samsung has the best screen visually and the nicest to touch. But the body feels plasticky, updates are a little slow, and they stuck you with Bing in it. Not until you get the Fascinate updated to Android 2.2 will you be able to get Google Search widget with voice. You can download the Google Maps though from the Android Market. Samsung is saying the update for the Galaxy S is soon though, and a gradual staggered program may already be in effect. I just don't know how they would implement it in US phones, if its off the air or via PC sync as the international phones.

The Droid X is pretty impressive for its body build, like this was meant for a tank driver. While the colors are not as brilliant, the screens look sharper than on the Samsung for some reason. While the Samsung is all curves, the Droid X is all angles. Originally they came out with Android 2.1, but an update to Froyo is in effect. New batches of Droid X are now shipped with Android 2.2. Check with the phone settings. You certainly want the Android 2.2.

if you are a social media person, it doesn't matter since both phones---any Android---is always social media inclined. At this point, its a race of quality and support. My confidence feel is higher with the Motorola though.

Unless you want to root, then the Samsung in this case would win.

I will not be rooting and I will be watchin very few MOVIES on my phone, the occasional Youtube video may find it's way to my screen but the majority of the time, I listen to music. I like the X for its largness as it is very close to a tablet (small amount of sarcasm) but I also LOVE the crispness and brightness of the SF screen.

I am leaning a bit towards the SF since I will not be using it to watch movies.

I guess it depends on your coverage in your area. Where I live, USCC is as good if not better than VZW. USCC didn't do anything to the phones, either, so it ships with the Samsung/Google goodies. (No Bing-locked default search, VCast, etc)

The screen is absolutely amazing on the SF/SM.

You still get permanently installed bloatware, but alas, that seems to be a feature on Android phones...

I will be going with the Samsung Fascinate on Sunday. I went in to the store today and messed around with one and the Droid X side by side. Not only are the colors more vibrant on the SF but it seems much faster and less laggy thank the X. Sorry Moto, your Droid was good to me but my business is going elsewhere.

I wouldn't choose the samsung because I'm personally not a fan of SAMOLED screens. The pentile matrix bugs me and ends up making text look fuzzy, IMO. I also am not a huge fan of the oversaturated colors. It has too big a color gamut so the colors definitely pop out at you, but they just aren't true to life enough. I think this makes you "ooh" and "ahh" at the screen at first, but after a while you realize that it's just too much. Again, this is all personal preference. Some people love their AMOLEDS. I also don't like the build quality of the Samsungs. While they make be just as sturdy, they don't feel that way. They feel light and plasticky, like grabbing it too tight would snap it. Couple this with the annoyance of having the micro-usb port on the top of the phone with the sleep/wake/power button on the side, and it's enough to drive you nuts.

As you may tell I'd recommend the Droid X, but the only way for you to decide is to play with both of them yourself.
