Might be a little late with this, but 2.1?!?!?!?

I was doing a little searching and stumbled across this article. If this is truly 2.1 and works on the Hero, could it in theory work on the Eris as well?

I have seen that article on multiple sites and have even seen a youtube video with someone sporting the new version of our favorite OS. Howerver, I have one HUGE question...is this only available for the GSM version of the hero? I have the sprint version so im wondering if i should get excited about 2.1.
