With the new Nexus, I DO DEF love basic vanilla Droid, but will I regret going to the Nexus S from the MyTouch 4g which I love

I will:

More Refined and updated look

a solid feel of the MyTouch

Well, not this, but my Vibrant had 3.0 Bluetooth. I suppose if I didn't notice a difference now, I wouldn't then

It seems to me, that if I love big screens, I got by with the feel of my Vibrant cause I use a case (the first few months I hated it cuase I got lag, then got a new one and loved it...thus, I may love this as much or more than my mytouch 4g), don't know the use of the other bluetooth, and only have 8-12gb of movies or music at one time I listen too

Then the better phone would be the Nexus S

....especially if I am one who likes to buy a phone every 12-15 months, then this won't be an issue if a better one comes out in a year

Can anyone add their two cents.

I the long run the Nexus is a better idea. Like the Nexus 1 has, it will get updated for many future versions. The MT4G will probably only get about 2 future updates.

MyTouch 4G has... a SD Card Slot, a Newer Processor with the Second Gen. SnapDragon and this only has the 1st Gen. Hummingbird, Less RAM, and No HSPA+

You are the expert...trust me. I know very little, that is why I come here. But those all can't be improved by updates can they??

Will it run n ATTs 3G network? I think ATT uses 850 and this has 900. Also Samsung seems to have a lot of issues with GPS on the Galaxy phones. I hope this is fixed.

Hey Im new to the site. I initially had the G1, then the Mytouch, and then I went to the Nexus 1. The Nexus 1 is a great device, especially coming from the earlier builds of android. I recently sold my Nexus one to buy the Mytouch 4g. I am not disappointed at all. I've been looking at some reviews of the upcoming Nexus S and I really don't see anything that makes me want to spend another $550 on a phone. I know it will run 2.3, but I think I will be ok with the Mytouch 4g until the phones ability to handle the new builds becomes void. Overall, the Mytouch 4g is a smooth device.

The nexus 1 in my opinion was badass! Something about the nexus 1 always excited me lol.
But idk why im posting this. If i were you, id go for the iphone

I would really have appreciated a multi-band GSM phone so it could be used on ATT as well. I'm sitting on my nexus one and would have liked the nexus S...

I wonder if they'll come out with a dock and all those other goodies like the did for the N1? that has really made the phone so versatile for me.

Second generation Snapdragon 8255 is only the equal of the 1st generation Hummingbird...both on 45nm process. As a matter of fact the Hummingbird still blows it away on graphics.

I will add a few more. With the Nexus S you do gain

A slightly bigger screen

Super AMOLED. Yes the difference is obvious over the OLED or SLCD HTC uses.

A very precise touchscreen. HTC has greatly improved its touchscreens since the Nexus One but in my subjective opinion, the Galaxy S screen---protected with Gorilla Glass---still feels more precise.

A bigger 1500mah battery. Say what you will of Samsung or even LG, they don't skimp on batteries like HTC does, which I believe is only 1300mah or 1400mah on the MyTouch 4G.

On HTC side,

There is HTC Sense, which does have usability improvements over stock Android, which Google has even said, a showcase of Android's full capabilities. This difference cannot be underestimated.

You do get the trackball or trackpad.

Software Updates from HTC/Tmobile (in conjunction w/ Google of course)


Nexus S has the following that MyTouch 4G does not:
SAMOLED screen (curved) slightly larger
Faster CPU + GPU (but not revolutionary, that'll be 2011 chips)
Capacative screen butons (Back, Menu, Search, Home)
NFC Chip + Support
Default Android UI skin
Software Updates direct from Google (likely more + more frequent)


So based on the items above and the difference in build quality/form factor...pick which is best for you.

Do realize with MyTouch4G you may be able to get more discounts from Tmobile or other retailers than you will for the Nexus S so price is in favor of MyTouch4G.

There is a way to turn it off.... Go to settings, applications, running services and find the faves notification and click on it and click stop. Make sure you stop both of them. Just so everyone knows when you soft reboot the phone (meaning you take out the battery) you have to do this again.

And if I remember correctly, maybe I'm wrong, but I think I read that it will come unlocked and will run on any GSM network right out of the box.

sorry i wasn't being clear... you can TALK on ATT but you're stuck on their slow DATA network EDGE.

of all the services on my smartphone i use voice the least and data the most.

It's not really an unlocked phone if you don't have the 3G frequencies to support any other data network.
