Default Copying APKs from non-rooted phone to rooted tablet?

My wife has a non-rooted Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro and I have a rooted Infotmic 10" tablet. Both are running Android 2.1-update-1. There is a free application on the Market that for some reason doesn't get listed when I search for it on the tablet but is there when I search using the phone.

Is there a way to either intercept the apk when it gets downloaded on the phone, or copy the apk from /data/apps so I can transfer it to the tablet?

Incidentally, the wife has said I'm not allowed to root her phone.

Grant

If it's a free app, you can try backing it up with Astro. Paid apps can only be backed up when rooted, but sometimes free apps can be backed up with astro.

I don't think you can copy apps from the phone unless the phone is rooted. Not sure if you can side load the app, but if you can find the apk file you can try that route. But if you do root the phone, you can use root explorer to do what you were trying to do.

This may well be due to the fact that the app doesn't support the tablet's display resolution. Just a FYI in case of problems if you do manage to sideload it.

I thought that might be the case, but in their FAQ it says that the Market won't list the app under the following circumstances:
  • You are not running the right version of Android. Graffiti requires Android 1.6 or later.
  • Your device does not support copy protection. Android Market will not show copy-protected apps on devices without support.
  • Your device is unlocked. Graffiti will not be visible on unlocked devices.
Now, I know the device is running the right version, but I'm not sure about the others. I know what copy protection is, but how would I find out if my tablet supports it or not? And the whole "unlocked" thing...

I've contacted the app vendor but haven't heard back (yet).

The wife has decided that perhaps rooting it would be a good idea. Apparently there's a known issue with her device that means after a few days the Market simply fails to download anything. She has experienced this (and factory reset the device a number of times now)... but it would seem there is a hack to fix it, but it requires the device to be rooted.

Maybe I'll be able to get the apks I'm interested in after she's rooted her toy.
