Default Need an Android phone that meets certain criteria

I'm looking for an Android phone for my wife. It need to meet the following criteria

- Works with AT&T (GSM).
- Runs Android (obviously).
- Has a small keyboard for text messages.
- Has a front facing camera.
- Has GPS functionality.

Is there any such phone on the market? What are my options? I'd like to get a more current phone rather than an older one. Thanks.

I just went to the USA store for AT&T and didn't see any that have a front cam?
My friends have the Captivate and love it over the iPhone though.

Front facing camera is what is going to kill you. I am pretty sure no phone exists with that camera and the rest of those specs you are wanting.

Default Samsung Epic may do it

I think the Samsung Epic has a front and rear facing camera and a keyboard but I don't think it is GSM.

Yes, correct, that's CDMA and Sprint only.

BTW - Welcome to the forums!

Also - no guarantees at all - but CES kicks off on Jan 6, if other choices are coming soon, maybe they'll be announced then.

The pulse isn;t going to work on ATT's 3G, I don't think, since it is a TMO phone.

Ah okay, but I think it's 3G though because my Mini Puse has 3G!

Yep, it's 3G - it's just a TMO phone, not AT&T.

AT&T - that's a hard and fast requirement I take it?

Yeah, the phone is 3G but the radios use different bands between TMO and ATT. Sort of wish that wasn't the case. Not sure why they went that route. EU TMO uses the same bands ATT uses in the US.

T-Mo in Europe doesn't use the band AT&T *mainly* uses, which is 850. But some European networks do have legacy support for 1900, which AT&T still uses in some places but that may be in the process of being phased out.

In any case, I don't see a GSM phone that has both a keyboard and a front camera. Its usually one or the other. The Epic might fit that criteria but its CDMA and Sprint. International Galaxy S has a front camera but no sliding keyboard. I'm talking of the i9000T variant, intended for Latin America and Telstra in Australia, not the AT&T Captivate. Not the suffix T, the i9000 is Europe and Asia 3G frequency.

Bell HTC Desire Z from Canada has the AT&T 3G frequency and keyboard, but no front camera.

AT&T is overrated. Telstra in Australia and Bell in Canada also uses this band. But most of all, Latin America uses this band.

So called international phones that feature 850 3G support were never really intended to work with AT&T in the first place, but are targeting Canadian, Australian and Latin American markets. They conveniently use the US FCC for certification. The fact they work with AT&T on 3G is a convenient bonus.

Does your phone have to specifically be for att, our do you just require a phone that works on a sim card? Because many att phones can be unlocked to work with the sim card of any carrier, and same for t-mobile phones.

Default AT&T as a requirement

I already have AT&T for my iPhone so I'd like to leave my wife on the same carrier. I think we'll wait until we can get a phone with a keyboard and front facing camera that is also GSM. We aren't in a hurry.
