Skype buys Qik - Better mobile video calling finally?
Not sure if anybody saw this article, but Skype purchase Qik. Hopefully that means mobile video calling will be much improved. My experience thus far hasn't been great with regards to video calling, so I don't use that much.
Huh. First we had Skype video calling thru Fring (worked great for some, not so for others), Skype put the kabosh on that, then we had the Qik alternative (I never liked it), and now Skype is buying them. I'd love to know the intentions here - no doubt, we'll know quite soon.

I must say it stung a little to see Skype get updated on the iPhone 4 to do video calls... especially when that is what I came from. I skype with family in Hungary at least 2 hours a week, plus an hour or so with my parent's and girflriend's parents/family. For that single feature I am kicking myself (just a little) having made the jump... but there is no way I could have known. It's not like the laptop is horrible, but it wure would be convenient to get a quick skype video chat in while driving (as a passenger of course!) instead of having to set time aside in the day to do it. I know plenty of people claim it to be just a "toy" and worthless feature, but I, for one, would use the hell out of it!

That's interesting.
I tried cross-platform chatting with my best friend on his iPhone via fring and once he downloaded the fix for his Fring app, we got it working. It was okay, but not great. Didn't care for it much and we kept on yelling that we couldn't hear each other too well.
Wow this is some serious bullshit. First off I can understand Skype wanting to kill its comepition and buying qik for 100 million but than qik needs to get the video confrencing abilities we all expect from Skpe since they had yet to give Android users our Video chat udate which was suppose to be in for the end of 2010. This is bullshit and they need to do this ASAP and now that I just read Iphone users have the ability this beyond bullshit and just not right especially since Android phones are the number one selling phones and they should be surpassing the Iphone 4 no later than this year.

Yeah - I gotta try ooVoo (linked above) to see.
I Fring/Skyped with Macs and Wins, zero problems. Fring's just its own deal now.
Nothing guarantees or prohibits cross-platform capability. Too many examples in each direction proves that.
Also, after that Skype meltdown fiasco last month, I'm caring less and less about them. That's just me.
