Money Google's Android more vulnerable to viruses than Apple's iOS: security firm

Looks like an article penned by Trend Micro own pen.

Most likely true, if only because Apple has a tight control over contents on the iPhone.

Wow someone selling an antivirus for android says its vulnerable?

crazy

You still have to download something not on the market, and then give it permissions to "be a virus." Not really a virus in my opinion.

“Apple has a sandbox concept that isolates the platform, which prevents certain viruses that want to replicate themselves or decompose and recompose to avoid virus scanners,” Chang said.

lol.. Android has NOTHING like this, huh?

They claim certain type of viruses just can't exist on the iPhone, the sole reason being because Apple "checks" every app in the app store. This is simply untrue. Apple takes advantage of its app store in many ways but doesn't check every line of code in every app. For months there was a "flash light" app that provided free tethering as a secret feature that wasn't described in the description, it was only removed after Apple was informed, but until then apple was clueless. Point is apple doesn't really check the code, only that the app doesn't crash or freeze. Who knows what other hidden things might lie within other iPhone apps, apple doesn't, and users have no way of controlling what apps have access to.

They also mention sandboxing on the iPhone as if android doesn't implement it.

"Android is open-source, which means the hacker can also understand the underlying architecture and source code,”

Some more nonsense. I don't know which platform is more vulnerable to viruses but this article is rubbish, offers no data to support its claims, only the typical open source FUD and misconceptions.

Please.

Security firm losing revenue (see end of article) comes out with catchy headline to match its new software offering -

The Sky Is Falling, Prevent It By Sending Us Money

If security is a real concern, root your phone, install DroidWall and practice safe usage.

The biggest security risk in any technology is staring at you in the mirror. A little education goes a long way and reduces the need for walled gardens, castle moats and tinfoil hats.

I agree with lunatic59. The fact that the antivirus company mentioned here is trend micro is reason not to trust it.
