Default How do you Install new Android Firmware via Ubuntu

How do I install a new firmware on my Android Phone? My OS is Ubuntu and the threads that I have read are Windows-centric. Has anyone written a howto update the firmware in any GNU/Linux distro?

The RUU's that I have seen are all .exe's.

I have a HTC Tattoo (Malaysian/Vietnam version) that needs to be updated to World Wide so that I can get Marketplace.

Thanks for your help.

What guide are you trying to follow ? I followed this guide to replace my HTC Dream 1.5 Android with Cyanogen Mod's firmware, I also edited it a bit as I followed it on my Ubuntu system (9.10):
Full Update Guide - Rogers Dream EBI1 to CyanogenMod - CyanogenMod Wiki

Most changes involved copying files to your SD card and using Android's recovery menu options, so most of it shouldn't be specific to Ubuntu. Perhaps take a look to the above guide and infer some of the things needed in Ubuntu (such as sudo).

I tried following this guide:
Unlocking HTC Tattoo on Orange UK

From my understanding, Cyanogen doesn't work on the Tattoo. The roms I have seen for the Tattoo are all .exe's. So I am unable to just copy them onto the microSD card.
