I have a Samsung Galaxy Pro, running on Android 2.2.2

I want to know if there's a way to:

(a) To clear internet download history, without deleting the file. The ways suggested in other threads do not work. Such as Manage Applications>All>Download Manager>Clear Cache / Data or >All>Internet>Clear Cache / Data. There is one roundabout way, to move the downloaded files from /Downloaded to any other folder using the file explorer. But, is there any other easier way?

(b) If I receive a notification whilst listening to music the music gets interrupted with the notification sound. This is quite irritating, and does not happen in Silent mode. So, everytime I have to put the phone on silent mode while listening to music. Is there any easier way around this one as well?

I can't think of an easier way to clear download history.

Tasker might be able to handle your second concern if switching to silent mode/using profiles/using airplane mode, etc is too much of a hassle.
