Default Who has best CAMERA QUALITY ???

Has anyone done any tests on which phone has the best quality camera ???

Does one company consistenly have better cameras, (since I am sure it can easily vary from one "phone" or the other even in the same company) ???

I am talking about resolution, noise, low-light, autofocus time, shutter lag-delay, OPTICAL zoom, and FLASH DISTANCE.

I am a professional photographer, and while I certainly don't expect equal quality, it would be nice to have at least the best that can be possible.

Check out this link: Blind cameraphone comparison 2 - Phone Arena

They are currently still doing the blind comparison, so you'll have to wait until probably next week to see the results.

One phone that I know of that has a high end camera is the Nokia N8. It's not an Android phone. Depending on how important you feel a camera is, you may want to take a look at it. Other than the camera, you may be disappointed with the phone. I used to have the Nokia N97 which is a predecessor of the N8. My opinion is that the N8 (and its keyboard slider companion E7) was not that attractive to me, so I switched to an Android phone.

nokias tend to have great cameras overall and the n8 has the best camera of any phone right now - tho' having owned one, i really couldn't recommend the phone as a whole to anyone

the htc sensation, which i now have has an incredibly fast shutter

i don't know of any phone that has optical zoom

I'd love to know if anyone has a decent resource for comparing smartphone cameras. You can find the MP count for camera but that really doesn't tell you anything other than pixel count. Picture quality is affected by so many other factors.

Finding one with optical zoom will be difficult, if at all possible. There's really just no room in most devices to accomodate such optics.

There used to be one phone that had an optical zoom but I don't remember who made it. At this point, I think that idea might have been dropped. As for the other features, unfortunately, the engineers and marketing people who still want to carry on the megapixel wars got kicked out of the DSLR and high end P&S market and seemed to have made their way to the phone cam sensor arena. Quite frankly, it's really silly what they're doing.

If you're really that worried about all that and need something smaller than your pro rig, I would suggest something like a Canon S95.

This really varies by device. Most of the time HTC doesn't have the greatest camera quality, and most of them that I have used take really terrible pics. But then HTC recently came out with the Mytouch 4G Slide, which is supposed to have the best camera quality of any Android device. I was able to play around with one and I can definitely say that it's by far the best camera I have seen in a phone.

Here's an article where they put it up against a point and shoot.
Gadgetmania 1: myTouch 4G Slide vs. Sony Cybershot | TechnoBuffalo

If I remember it doesn't have an optical zoom, but it definitely makes up for it.

You can't really just go with a manufacturer and think that you are going to get a consistently good camera quality, it really varies by the device. And if a good camera is the most important feature, the MT4G Slide looks like a good option.

Higher end Nokia phones with Carl Zeiss lens yeild very good quality. Though I can't recommend their Symbian phones which is ... not good. Their new Meego phone might be the only one worth a look since no offense to Android fans, is a much truer and more secure linux OS. Too bad after their Microsoft deal I'm no longer interested in them since I'm skeptical about Nokia commitment to it and if there will be a strong developing community.

I too, am a pro photographer and the best camera I've ever used in a phone is the iphone 4. Really amazing contrast, rez, and other factors. Unfortunately I was unhappy with the 4s announcement and I just bought an LG Thrill. The 3D is a really fun gimmick and surprisingly good, but I think it is at the expense of 2D image quality. I've only had it for 2 days, so I'm still experimenting. I may exchange it for the Galaxy sII.

sony ericsson has the best camera/video, 12m.1 megapixel, megapixel dont really matter, but sony lenses are just superior to anything else, i have a sensation now and even its 1080p isnt as good as the 720 satio in video format

If we're talking about camera and you liked iPhone 4, you'd be very impressed with SGS2, Xperia Arc and especially N8 in terms of camera. LOL. And no, it doesnt come with pixel count (but that helps in digital zooming).

Thanks for the reply. You're right; I don't care about pixel count, just results. I will likely return the Thrill and get the SGS2. I'm sure I'll be much happier even though I have to give up the great conversation starter 3D gimmick

SE Xperia Arc has the best camera of any android phone at the moment. Low light performance is nothing short of amazing for a camera phone.

But, as has been said already - best camera phones all round are from nokia.

Like you said, too many megapixels are worse than too little. 5-8 is the magic # for cell phones right now.

As for the video, 1080p will look like crap because of the low framerate.

My advice: If you are a photog, go iPhone 4s, as the camera and screen will make you happy. Im a photog, and my HTC Inspire does the job just fine. I just carry it with me for a quick snap, but could never replace my actual DSLR.
